If any significant accumulations ( most dogs ) you may need to get the teeth cleaned first at your vets, and then start brushing. Brushing should be mandatory for all new puppies ;-) as we see dogs with advanced dental disease every day at the clinic and in most cases the condition is totally preventable. If you are at all unsure make a nurse appointment with your local vets and get some very valuable advice ( the nurse will upgrade the consult to a vet if they are worried ).
