With proper teaching around it, this novel does a great job of keeping 5th graders' attention and provides comprehensible input, as designed.This second edition should be labeled as such. The text appears to be the same as an earlier version but with changes in illustrations the page numbers are different. Since I bought these to supplement an existing class set, the different layout created some confusion among students. "Wait, which page? Where are we?" Nothing insuperable, just a little extra time.

My students really enjoyed reading it. It is interesting, cultural and pretty easy to follow. I recommend it!
