easy exact outlet cuts
I have remodeled four houses without this product, with cutting outlets being the main area where mistakes are made. I wanted an easy spot on way to cut an outlet. After seeing a video of how to use this product, I had to give it a try. I just finished a remodel of a fifth house and used this product with a sheetrock router, and my cuts were easy, exact, and quick!!! I will never again cut an outlet without this product. If you do sheetrock work, this product will save you time and your sanity.

Didn't work for me
Getting the hole cut in the right place for an outlet or light switch is a PITA. You can't be off more then about 1/8" or you're going to have to use mud to plug the gap, which isn't optimal. I tried to use this, but it slopped around a bit too much. I think it would work well if you perfected your technique. The outlet boxes I was using had a slide on the side and two wood screws so that you could adjust the box depth after the drywall was installed. Love those boxes. Unfortunately, the slide mechanism does not allow the tool to center reliably. Measuring never seems to work, well, maybe 20% of the time. I stuck screw stubs in the mounting holes and pressed the panels against those to mark the outlet position. That worked very well 90% of the time. Sometimes, no matter how careful you are, things don't line up. Professionals online recommend plunging a rotary cutter into the center of the outlet location (marked by measuring or using a piercing tool like this one), cutting outward to find the edge of the outlet, and then skirting the outlet around the perimeter with the rotary tool. It makes a lot of dust. I prefer the manual hole saw method since the dust doesn't fly as much.

The idea is there but i dont think these are a time saver
the idea works however i found that marking the outlet box with a marker then pressing the drywall against the wall to make a cutout mark worked just as quickly.

Nice Idea, doesn't work
I purchased 10 of these for a big drywall project. They don't work very well. They are easily moved out of center by the wires in the box or when placing the sheetrock against them and moving it a little into its final place. The upshot is the point pokes through the drywall somewhere other than the center of the box...then when I used a template to mark the box, based on its center, the hole was off--sometimes a lot. I can measure them in and cut them as well as this works. Either way, I'm left patching drywall when the box doesn't line up. I still haven't found a good tool for this purpose...other than the tried and true tape measure.

Work great!
These are a godsend for anyone doing drywall with electrical boxes in the sheet.
