Tell Me a Story: Stories from the waldorf Early Childhood Association of North America Review: Highly Recommended for Waldorf Families / Early Childhood / Storytelling - This is a lovely early childhood book for Waldorf families... I absolutely suggest adding it to your collection if you are looking for stories to read or tell your child! Unlike some other Waldorf storytelling books there aren't puppetry ideas or directions for circle time movement games or sheet music for singing or other musical accompaniment to the tale. It is simply a beautiful age-appropriate compilation of gentle nature-oriented stories for little ones. This is the kind of book you give to a new mother and father! And then you get a copy for yourself too and you end up lending that one to a friend and never getting it back... so maybe you should just go ahead and get three! Here is the Table of Contents, which is what I always want to know when I'm considering buying a book: Simple Stories to Start With: Good Morning, Mr. Jay Rimple and Dimple The Hungry Bunny Mister Grieder's Farm And the Little One Said... The Lost Jewel Good Night, Baby Bear Nature Tales: The Harvest Mouse Autumn Bear The Snowflake and the Leaf The Snowdrop The Oriole's Journey Small Cloud The Story of a Butterfly Mother Spider Stories for Seasons and Festivals: Michael and the Dragon The Boy Who Spoke the Truth The Golden Star Flowers Mother Earth and the Leaves The Old Owl on the Farm Winifred Witch and Her Golden Cat The Big Red Apple The Harvest Gift Squirrel Nutkin's Thanksgiving Hugin and the Shooting Stars Fiochetto Bianco The Golden Lantern Hugin's Lantern Mother Earth's Children Silvercap, King of the Frost Fairies The Crystal Cave The Child of Light Holy Nights The Polar Bear A Million Valentines Leprechaun's Gold Lady Spring Arrives The Mud Muffins The Little Pine Tree The Old Woman and the Tulips Grandfather Tomten and the Easter Surprise Golden Rabbit and the Rainbow Eggs The Caterpillar's Journey Corn Child and the Queen of Night Jimmy Acorn Stories Working and Helping: The Little Girl Who Would Not Work The Legend of the Woodpecker Little Squirrel and the Mysterious Knocking The New Red Dress The Sheep and the Pig The Silent Maiden The Farmer Prince The Shining Loaf The Dragonfly's Tale The Fisherman and the Quiltmaker Do What You Can Journeys and Wonders: The Story of the Mountain Pears The Sun's Sisters The Golden Pine Cones Peter, Paul, and Espen The Magic Lake at the End of the World The Dragon's Gate Hans and the Wonderful Flower Hidden Waters The Sword of a True Knight Wild Goose Lake Scarface Healing Stories for Special Situations: The Little Seed's Journey Two Friends Knock, Knock Mouse Goes Looking for a House For Anastasia and Her Dear Grandmother Shuna, Teller of Tales The Wise Woman and the Magical Garden The Golden Fish Little Birds and Big Bugs Ending With Laughter: The Travels of a Fox Little Half-Chick The Boy Who Tried to Fool His Father The Red Sheep Gecko's Complaint How to Break a Bad Habit This collection of stories takes a spot on your shelf for sure, probably beside the Tiptoes Lightly series by Reg Down, Healing Stories for Challenging Behavior by Susan Perrow, and The Breathing Circle: Learning through the Movement of the Natural Breath by Nell Smyth. Review: Engaging and with a moral too. - I am a homeschooling mom with a 6 and 3 year old. I do a little circle time in the morning with finger play and basic Waldorf type rhymes/activities. I usually read a story from our collection or from books we choose at the library, but felt like something was missing. I am not really into the Grimm's fairy tales, (which I know is Waldorf sacrilege) but I can't get beyond the unhelpful dichotomies of good/bad, pretty/ugly, princess being saved by a man after straying outside of her gender role...anyway. Another reason I chose this book was because of another reviewer's point that it is important for kids to simply listen and use their imagination, not always be looking at picture books. So, I really like this book and so do my kids. There are lovely stories that capture the imagination and also have the good strong values that I want to encourage in my kids. There are stories about cleverness, hard work and kind heart, about growing one's food and knowing the bounty of the earth, about taking care of others and singing a song through it all. Highly recommended whether you home school or not- we now read these for bedtime stories as well!

Worth every cent!
We LOVE this book and love bringing these stories alive. Sometimes we act them out with puppets or peg dolls or stuffies sometimes we draw them out, snag site words from these stories, research ideas that come up in these stories, y’all about the morals, and my kids have even learned to read with this book. We have used this books over and over again for the past 3 years as homeschoolers. For anyone who says it’s boring, well, they just didn’t make it come alive. Just purchased “Tell Me Another Story” and we are excited to check it out. We also use the Waldorf Book of Poetry over and over again. Highly recommend!

Fabulous!
Whether you're a Waldorf family or not, these stories are amazing! Filled with imagination, heart, empathy, and wisdom. This could be the only book on my child's book shelf and we'd never get bored or go wanting. Our daughter is 4 and in a Waldorf school, but this would also be good for younger kids and older kids alike. We took it camping to read around the campfire, and we had adults walking by getting into the stories and asking to sit and listen. Yes, it's that good!

Amazing story book
So at first I was underwhelmed, very few pictures and none in color. Then my son(4) and I started reading this before bedtime. Now, it's the only book he wants read to him. The stories are wonderful, unique, full of adventure. Some have lesson and morals and some are simply fun and engage the imagination. We love this book!

Nice collection of short stories for toddlers
This has been a wonderful bedtime book for us. Most of its stories have no illustrations. The few that do just have a simple black & white drawing. Which is great! Because my little one doesn't feel the need (or want) to try to read along and see the pictures, I am able to read the book in a dark room just by a reading light. For us, having lights out helps with the transition to sleep. Also, the length of the stories are just right. There are plenty of stories, too, so I haven't gotten bored reading the same ones over and over, although there are some favorites that have been requested several times.

Enjoyable
I was expecting more of a book that helped me to make up my own stories, but this is actually a book filled with short tales. We have fun acting out the stories with dolls/figures. But some of the stories are a bit long and my child loses attention quickly.

Highly recommend stories and parables
I’m so happy with this book. It is full but of short stories and parables for children, some are sweet stories of the seasons, others are stories with a moral lesson woven in. Some are stories written for certain circumstances in which a child would need a story for emotional support and healing. This should be a staple in every homeschool library, and every children’s library.

Lovely stories. This was the second copy we bought as we had to buy for a friends birthday - they also love the stories

Must have stories for your little ones. Interesting with lots of learning. Beat part is your child won’t feel that you are trying to teach something at all. My daughter loves the stories and it has built reading habits in her. Though she can’t read but she will sit with the book every day and ask me to read.

So many sweet and comforting stories. My 3 and a half year old loves this book but it would absolutely be appropriate for older children as well.

We love this book so much that I brought it again for a friend’s child for Christmas. Beautiful stories for all ages. Has inspired my 5 year old to make up her own stories for me.

Lovely stories for preschool aged children. I like that it is divided into seasons and other sections, and some suggestions are given for using table top puppets. Really great book because it allows children to use their own imaginations or watch a simple puppet play instead of being shown pictures each time a story is read to them. There are other author's notes to help us understand why a story may be of value to children such as the section on Healing stories for special situations which my support children in sharing and including, separation anxiety, or with a loss.
