Fab children's fantasy book

such a fantastic children's fantasy! the worldbuilding is well-explained throughout, and the plot is exciting with engaging twists and turns. i can really imagine this being a firm favourite if i read it as a kid. this did a brilliant job as a first book, really hooked me and made me want to read more. i loved the magic and fantastical creatures in this! it also has great messages for kids, such as friendship and self-belief.
