Are the utensils raw wood or are they stained or have a clear coat of varnish or something else on them?

I guess you can call it raw wood. The wood has been dried than treated with cooking oil, this provides the wood protection. When used, wash with soap & water, when you feel the wood needs it, rub oil into the wood. If you feel the wood has gotten ruff, sand with a fine sandpaper befor rubbing in the oil. I myself love the wood as it is safe for all pans. And they are long lasting with a little care!!
