We wanted to go with an aluminum gate as they are lighter weight and much easier to drill into for attaching hinges and closure hardware. As you can see in the pic, the gate is tall. I will ultimately move it to some steps we have, but I was desperate to get the neighbor's dogs restrained as they quickly determined the new putting green was their favorite dumping ground. My only complaint is the gate is listed as 48 inches wide. It is not. It is actually about 46.5. Maybe the exact dimension is listed somewhere in the description online that I did not see. I installed the posts prior to the gate arriving with the assumption of 48 inches, so I set the posts with a 49 distance between posts. Mistake. Thankfully, the fence posts were anchored with screws in concrete and not posts in the ground. So, I unscrewed the fence on one side and moved it about 1.5 inches. Tragedy averted. The gate is easy to assemble and once you connect the top and botton cross members to the side posts, it become very rigid and strong. As the post it is attached to is bolted to concrete, the entire install feels sturdy and permanent. All of the necessary hardware comes with the gate, including two spring loaded hinges and a magnetic latch. The spring loaded hinges are great as it means no one will be leaving the gate open which would allow the pooping dogs in or grandkids out. The hinge tension can be adjusted with a screw driver, though the tension they arrived with was right for us. The latch is a magnetic bolt which slides into the slot when closing. I think it will work fine, and as the gate will not be high traffic, I am not concerned about it swinging past the magnetic bolt which is a possibility. If you need a four foot gate opening and want a rust-free solution, this is a good product and DIYers will have no problem with it.

DO NOT BUY!!! If you order this, it will likely cost you more to return than the purchase price. I bought 2 posts at $50 each, return shipping cheapest option $120 Also these posts are so paper thin, I don't know what anyone could ever use them for. I needed them for a railing, way too weak for that. By the way, I'm a building contractor, these are an absolute joke, I will never buy anything from Weatherables again. I learned a $120 lesson about returns.

I had to match up a fence because I had two sections that were damaged to an existing fence. These worked great because I could assemble them in between the two open spaces. And they matched very good.good quality.

I purchased the gate and two posts. The post will not hold the weight of the gate. If you have a section of fencing on the hinge side of the gate it will probably be ok. I only have the one post on the hinge side and the post flexes to much.

First let me start by saying, I ordered a lot of other product from Weatherables. This included their straight and stair rail kits. The stair rails weren’t easy, but that’s a me problem not a them problem. The product looks great and I am pleased. When I was initially looking to improve my deck railing, a gate was also a requirement to keep our dog up top as well. This was listed as a resource when I searched aluminum railing gate on their options. I ordered it. Didn’t realize it was for a tall fence…not their deck railing until I opened it. I requested a refund, which they approved. I took it into UPS to return and they said I was required to pay for postage…$132 worth of postage…half the cost of the gate. The lady at the UPS location said she rarely sees buyers paying return shipping on Amazon packages and when she does, she’d never seen one that high. All that said, the gate is nice, it’s just useless for me and now I’ve gotta decide if I can find something to do with it. It’s left me with a sour taste in my mouth about weatherables and I encourage you to make sure you’re absolutely right on which parts you’re ordering for your job. I recognize that I could have dug deeper on dimensions, but something of this height should not come up as an option when you’re searching deck railing gates…
