Yes, wash. Dishwasher may dry them out so I hand wash which goes easily. Fun bowls.

Are they big like cereal bowls or are they more like snack/dessert bowls?

These bowls are small. More for dessert or soup appetizer like egg drop soup. The are beautifully made and it comes with soup spoons.

Is the wood a dark color? I need a lighter color as shown in the first photo.

About how many ounces capacity?

Haven't actually measured the ounce capacity but ... a full cup for sure (8 oz) and probably more. Enough for soup prior to dinner and or too much LOL coleslaw or whatever you intend to use it for. I like Asian soups and it easily holds an amount equal to what I would receive in a restaurant. Hope this helps.
