Good drill bits cuts through porcelain and marble easily.

I really struggled to drill into an apparent lintel so googled how to do it and followed the advice to use these drill bits. I ordered yesterday, they came today and the job was completed in 5 minutes 🙏. Started with the small bit and worked up to the 10mm bit I needed. Really Was like a hot knife through butter!I needed these drill bits in my life years ago 👌

The media could not be loaded.  I was first attracted to these by the rainbow colours! Childish, I know, but colours help you identify the right tool (pass me the red one) in combination with the clear labels printed in white on the sleeves. A lot easier to read than the usual label stamped/cast into the drill shaft, but perhaps not as durable.Anyway, these are hex shaft wood twist drills you'll mainly use to drill pilot holes for screws. The clever extra trick is that, if you're drilling through an existing circular hole (eg a shelf bracket or hinge screw hole) and choose a drill with a sleeve to fit it, you're guaranteed to get a pilot hole in the centre, rather than off to one side. Hmm. Wil this force you to use the wrong size of drill? How often do I need this?Another cunning use occurred to me: drilling a recessed hole so the head is completely flush or recessed. (Drill a shallow hole big enough to take the screw head, then drill your pilot hole centred within that.) This sounds useful, neater than countersinking. And you could even hide the head completely with a dowel.Slightly disappointed that they come packed loose, not in a hard plastic box to keep them organised.In use... I used each drill in some scrap pine. Two of the drills were bent when they arrived, one quite badly (see video). The latter was also missing its sleeve retraction spring. So QA very disappointing. The first drill I used (the largest) got clogged quickly and I couldn't get it unclogged without dismantling it. The other drills clogged a lot less, odd. The holes produced are 1/4 inch deep for the smallest diameter up to nearly 3/4 inch for the largest diameter. OK I guess for pilot holes but a bit limiting.OK, on to the unique selling point, the self centring: I held a hinge in place by hand and drilled two holes using the drill that centred in the screw holes, screwed in two screws, then used the same drill bit to drill the other two holes. (Photos attached.) At last, I can see the benefits: quick, easy and neat! The screw holes in the hinge were fairly small, so the self-centring relied on the small chamfer in the end of the drill sleeve.Next I took a drill bit apart and put it back together (photos attached), that all went well. Without the sleeve and spring, you have a decent hex shaft pilot drill, which can drill a lot deeper than 1/4 inch! I would probably use them more without the sleeves. I haven't used them enough to tell how long they'll last until they break or go blunt.Conclusion: clever design, poor quality control.

Drills received were imperial which was off putting. They worked perfectly for drilling through the tiles in our bathroom. Arrived on time.

Durable bits

I needed these to drill through some tiles in the shower room. They are excellent and really did the job. Seemed to drill throgh the tile with ease . I would but again if i needed them. The collection of drill bits will cover most domestic work. Well done

These are great little tools that ensure you can centre your pilot holes for hinges, handles, fasteners etc. They work perfectly and this set comes in all the sizes you'll probably ever need. They are nearly all in imperial sizes with one metric 5mm one. That doesn't really matter though as I always eyeball the size anyway. The hex shank fits most drills.A point off because they are not supplied in a case of any kind just a manky plastic bag. Also because the drill bits are held in place by a single grub screw, which do the job but don't feel that secure. I had no issues drilling 12 holes to fit a couple of handles to a gate.At £13.99 at time of writing they are great value for money and I'm sure I'll use them a lot.
