Beautiful, simply beautiful
I adore the retro look and the build quality is just perfect. Rugged, strong and built to last. No app required, I’m so pleased about that. The sound is phenomenal, I love it xx

Perfect Sound
I have lost track of how many different HiFi units I purchased over the decades. None of them ever seemed to be able to faithfully reproduce all the different styles of music I like. The Orange Box-L has solved that problem for me. Whether Classical symphony, 70s or 80s pop, pipe organ, ambient music or Moog electronic everything sounds natural. My main reason for wanting control over treble and especially the bass was my love of audio books. Many free recordings from a well know repository tend to be very bassy but the Orange Box-L gives me the ability to adjust the sound. Bluetooth connected swiftly to every device I tried and is rock solid. The power supply stayed cool even after hours of continuous use, as did the main unit.

Best Bluetooth Speaker Ever?
I've heard many Bluetooth speakers over the years, but Orange Box-L is in a class above them all. Incredibly deep, clear and warm bass, super clear midrange and scintillating highs all coming from a wonderfully retro cabinet based on Orange amps and speaker cabinets of the late 60s and early seventies.Setting up the Box-L couldn't be easier: Simply switch it on then press the Bluetooth button, seconds later "Orange Box-L" will appear in your Bluetooth menu. Pairing will take another few seconds, and you're ready to boogie! I would strongly recommend using your phone or tablet's onboard equaliser to get a sound that's right for your room's accoustics and your own individual taste. I sound- checked the Box L on everything from old Motown to mainstream rock to old Blues to Willie Nelson and I've never heard Santana's Supernatural sound so good. Maybe a bit pricey, but I'm not complaining as it takes BlueTooth listening to an entirely different level.

Defo a five star rating *****
The media could not be loaded. I’ve had this Orange Box-L ten months now. I still get that amazing sound contentment feeling every time I turn it on.Remember, as with all audio equipment, the better the signal you put into it, the better the sound you will get out of it. This applies to even the most expensive hi-fi systems on the market.

Great sound, Orange heritage !
I use Orange guitar amps all the time. The history and heritage of Orange amps goes back decades. Musicians have come to trust the brand. I recently bought some Orange headphones and came across this Bluetooth speaker. I couldn’t resist ! It’s made to the same specifications and solid build as the guitar amps. Sounds absolutely brilliant! Although I play and listen to rock a lot, I also listen to classical music too, and I have to say it comes out crystal clear. A good solidly built piece of kit, with a solid sound !

Superb Speaker
Probably the best speaker I have ever bought, the build quality is second to none,it reminds me of a guitar amp.The sound is as good as two separate speaker,to my ears it’s better but that’s only my opinion.I bought the orange version it looks fantastic,if you are thinking of buying one don’t hesitate.Yes it’s expensive but it’s a real quality speaker.

Once again - it appears I'm the party-pooper
Let's get this bit out of the way first - the build quality is excellent. But here's the problem, that's where the good news ends.I took receipt of my Orange Box L with some glee and excitedly unpacked it. I connected my phone and found music on YouTube that was at least of reasonable quality (giving it a fair chance to show me exactly what i'd spent £300 on) and then I... oh dear... well, maybe another track.. no, clearly not that one either, maybe this one... hmmm... what's wrong with it?Unfortunately, spending some time fiddling with the controls and skipping from track to track didn't lead to the much expected £300 Bluetooth audio nirvana I'd hoped for. The stated bass rolloff of 35Hz (really Orange?.. that's significantly lower than the lowest note on a bass guitar) and the stated power output of 50W RMS, were of course both nonsense, but I was expecting that. The lack of features also wasn't a problem for me, since I have no desire to take phone calls on a Bluetooth speaker - nor indeed on anything else much these days. And bearing in mind I'm 53, I don't look to carry it with me to all the beach parties I'm crashing on Friday evenings either, so portability can take a hike. The other missing feature I have no use for, is the ability to swim out to sea while listening to Wish You Were Here, secure in the knowledge that should it sink to the bottom, it'll still sound the same when fished back out, thanks to its IPx8 rating (no it doesn't have one).My expectations for £300 were focused purely on sound quality, and that's exactly what I bought it for. So, what I wasn't expecting, was an utterly dull, unexciting sound that was little better than a transistor radio. The bass end, to my ear, was virtually non-existent, and the scale of the soundstage could only be called small at best - and certainly had no intention of doing anything radical, like expanding beyond the image of the small box it was originating from. The overload light was also flashing long before it had become anything like loud enough to be usable in a normal social situation. Try as I might with the inbuilt tone controls, and irrespective of how much 'vibrant party-animal' I tried to coax out of it, it steadfastly sat in its flat cap, drinking tea and monotonously droning on about the importance of whippet grooming. In my desperation to get away from the image of grooming whippets, I took a line-out from my Sound Blaster card and used a CD as source material to give it the best opportunity I could to stretch its legs. Using the tone controls in the SB app, I could get something out of it that was acceptable. But then it occurred to me that its performance under these conditions was irrelevant. This isn't what I'd bought it for, so why was I even bothering to do this.I tried with a fresh set of ears the following weekend but if anything, it sounded even more disappointing than I remembered. I didn't want to return it, I wanted it to be ok (and 'ok' would've been enough), but it really wasn't ok, not for 300 sovs. I resigned myself to the reality that since trying to listen to it just made me scream at my cat about how 'they always f* you at the drive-through', there was little point in keeping it300 sheets is a lot of money for a Bluetooth speaker - and I can't help feeling there are far more exciting and impressive sounding alternatives out there in this relatively high price range. It's a Bluetooth speaker - vibrance, colour and a 'bigger than life' sound are central - whereas highly controlled levels of beige that make sure it never has ambitions beyond its pigeon coup, defy the very point of having Bluetooth speaker.I felt with so few features, the selling point had to be (and should have been) the jaw-dropping sound, surely given Orange's provenance? - but it manifestly isn't. The selling point appears to be the Orange logo - but to quote a long forgotten advertisement from the 80's: "If I want a badge, I'll become a security guard". For 300 smackers I wanted a great sound, and the Orange Box L failed to deliver, in spades. I never thought it would come to this, but with some sadness, returned to Amazon.
