Excellent, no frills ankle weights.
I understand if you want Balas for looks, but these are a great option that are comfortable, adjustable (change up the amount of weight), and easy to clean. I decided to buy them after reading they were a top pick in Tom's Guide.I do agree the iron bars inside can slightly shift, but there's no concern of falling out. It's only if you are doing a donkey kick they can move insight their compartments with gravity.Highly recommend. It's the OG.

Good Design, Construction, and Materials.
Set of two ankle weights. Each ankle weight consists of a foam-padded cuff with removable weights. The tag on the cuff states that the material content is 50% nylon, 25% foam, and 25% polyester. The cuff is well-stitched, with a reinforced binding around the edges. The cuff is ~5-1/4 inches high. You wrap the cuff around the bottom of your calf, just above the ankle, and secure it in place with a Velcro strap. On the inside of the cuff there are 10 vertical pockets. Inside each pocket you can insert a weight (a solid metal bar). Each weight is fabricated from solid magnetic metal and painted with black paint. Each weight is approximately 3-3/8" long, with a roughly ellipsoidal cross-section 1/2" X 5/8", with rounded ends. There are two ridges on opposite sides running along the length. I presume the weights are probably made of cast iron, and these ridges are the results of the mold seams. There are no sharp edges or burrs. I mention this detail because you need to insert each weight into a pocket, and it's important that you don't cut your fingers or the cuff. The weights are free of residual powder or film; no muck to get on your fingers or clothes. The weights slide in-and-out easily, but stay put. A foam-padded flap folds over the pockets and provides additional padding between the weights and your calf. The weights are distributed, such that, when the cuff is strapped on and all weights have been inserted, there are 5 weights on the outside of the leg and 5 weights on the inside of the leg. The weights are oriented such that the long axis is vertical. Having 10 thin, long weights allows the weights to be flexibly and comfortably wrapped around the leg. There are no weights on the front or the back of the leg, nothing to rub against the ankle. V-notches in the cuff are placed at the front and the back to provide further clearance for the ankle, so no pressure is exerted against the ankle. The instructions are skimpy. Be careful to wear the cuff such that the opening is at the front of the leg, and the wide openings of the V-notches are facing down towards the ankle. The V-notch at the front is wider than the V-notch at the back, and provides greater clearance for the front of the ankle. With one exception, the foam is all covered with fabric. The exception is the inside of the flap covering the weights. Here the foam is covered with only a thin mesh. I don't know how durable this is. This appears to be the one weak point. If the mesh wears out, the foam will quickly wear out. This is the reason I dinged 1 star (original rating was 4 stars). I'll write an update after I've used these for an extended period. If the mesh should prove durable, I'll up the rating to 5 stars.*****Update (6/27/2015): I've been using these daily for about 10 months now. The mesh and foam are intact, Velcro strap still secure, stitching intact. I'm ready to move up to heavier weights. I've just ordered the 10-lb/pair (5-lb/ankle) set. I've upgraded my rating to 5 stars for thislisting.*****I wear these while fast walking on a treadmill. I strap them over socks, and they sit on top of the shoes. They are very comfortable and well-balanced (see below). Nothing digs into me, and they don't slide around or rotate when the Velcro strap is properly adjusted. An empty cuff weighs .16 lb (72 gm). Each weight weighs nominally .25 lb (113 gm) (see actual measured weights below). In principle, you can add 1 to 10 weights per cuff in .25 lb increments for a maximum of 2.5 lb (1.1 kg) added weight per cuff. But for best balance, you should add the weights in pairs (add one weight to the inside, one weight to the outside). So the minimum added weight would be .5 lb, and you would add weights in .5 lb increments. For statistics gnurds out there, I weighed all 20 weights individually on a lab scale. Here are the weight results for the sample of 20:maximum = 115.7 gm (.255 lb)minimum = 105.9 gm (.233 lb)mean = 111.8 gm (.247 lb)median = 111.9 gm (.247 lb)standard deviation = 2.2 gm (.005 lb).

Product great; Wayfair has INTEGRITY
ORDER FROM WAYFAIR...they honor their ads.I ordered 40LB. of ankle weights but only received 20LB. After contacting Wayfair about the error, this is their final reply:Hi Paul,Thank you for your reply. We certainly appreciate your patience and will be happy to continue to work with you.I will be happy to match the price of $66.99, which will include the manual discount as well as the gift card discount. I am very sorry for the back and forth, and apologize for my poor oversight in withholding the extra $5.00 discount. That was silly of me, and apologize. Your business is very important to us and we appreciate the many opportunity you've kindly gave us to address this error. Please let me know if you would like to proceed with the order, and I will be happy to create a price quote for you to place the order at home and/ or call you at a convenient time to place the new order.Thank you again and please let me know if you have any questions.Best,KarenFinally, a company that "gets it!" They made a listing error that was corrected, but more importantly, Wayfair has a fine representative in Karen Macomber that made sure that their customer was satisfied with the transaction. I can give no higher praise for this employee than I wish she worked for me.I am delighted to report that the weights are an excellent product as well. I prefer the metal weight to sand, although that may not be the case for some people. Since they hold twenty pounds each, you need to be of a certain size to find them comfortable. Perfect for me.Thanks, Wayfair, for providing a necessary component to my hip rehabilitation after surgery.PM

It's more like ski boots now
Actual weight on my legal postal scale: 2.10 lbs.I bought 12 long by 5/8" diameter lead bars here on Amazon and used a hammer and a knife to cut them to 3" long, thus increasing the weight to 3.15 lbs, an increase of 50%. This was my plan all along, in order to have as compact as possible of weights for an inclined walking treadmill that at only 2 MPH can still be casually done while Internet browsing on my iPhone. I inclined it 6 degrees with boxes full of heavy metal scraps. These are so compact they totally keep out of the way of my ankles hitting each other and they don't slide down even on bare legs. They are small enough that the single fat Velcro closure can indeed provide enough holding power despite the lack of a buckle. The lead is soft enough that even the hard edges shouldn't cut through the tough nylon weave. The increase in weight brought them up into a threshold level where I really notice them on now instead of merely as if I had heavy boots on. It's more like ski boots now!Lead rods: Lead Cast Rods 5/8"diameter X 1' Length
