THINNER
It’s by Stephen King and like of many of his titles turned to film it lacks investment. So I found the plot excellent but rather shabbily transferred to film. I love Stephen King’s works so it has a very good plot and I really enjoyed this movie. Had I not have been a King fan - probably not so much.

A surprising gem
Many adaptations of King don't cut the mustard but Tom Holland's is faithful to the book and a joy to watch. It's always almost impossible to sympathise with a lawyer and that's the central issue with this one - as he remains a nasty piece of work, but the darkness of King's vision, that he would rather continue bent on his course for revenge rather than save his family is worthy of early Amicus or Clive Barker. Yes, the twist in the tale is pretty obvious but it's all faithful to the material. The fat suit and subsequent slimming down was well achieved and Joe Mantegna gives his best 'Fat Tony' impression. If you liked the book you won't be disappointed (it could have gone even darker though), if you didn't, you won't. It's no Misery or Shining, but it's no Dolores Clairborne either thank God. Enjoy Irresponsibly.

Thinner
it was ok a 1980 film if you have 1 1/2 to kill it's worth the watch but I think it should be free with Amazon prime not £3.49

NOT THE BEST KING ADAPTATION, NOR THE WORST
Thinner is based on the story by Stephen King, the king of horror. It is not the best film nor the worst, it was intriguing.Plot: A 109-year-old gypsy exacts a curse on a man for accidently killing one of their own people, a curse so shocking it forces the victim to gorge himself in an attempt to avoid shrinking away into nothingness. It is a revenge thriller, a cause and effect happenstance. The power of the film and events escalate all the way up until the shocking resolution. The plot is rather bland to be honest, but the acting is fantastic. I can understand this from the Gypsy's perspective, I can understand why they put a curse on the man. But at the same time, you feel sorry for the man as it was not intentional. In a sense, it is moral justice taken to extremes with devastating consequences! You really wanted to see how it concluded, it had to end one way or another.Thinner is good in a way, but you were left feeling on the edge really. Sometimes it was too bizarre for you to attach to it, but it was hooking. King played a part in it too, which you laughed at. It's not fulfilling, but at least satisfying. Not the best film, nor the worst. Any one want pie?

Hasn't Aged Well
I bought this film on VHS (remember that?)and replaced with DVD as I had fond memories of the film. As a Stephen King fan I thought this was a pretty decent adaptation. Well, that hasn't changed. It's STILL a pretty good adaptation of the book. However, where the film suffers is in Robert John Burke's acting. When he's in the fat suit he's all wide-eyed and jolly - because, obviously, that's what all fat people are like. But later, when the weight drops off, that 'jolliness' disappears. Not because he's ill (that comes later). I found it to be most annoying. Also, Tom Holland's direction feels somewhat dated when compared to many other SK adaptations. There's nothing innovative or inspiring here. If anything, this feels more like a TV movie.Despite all this, I enjoyed rewatching the movie - but it wouldn't make my Top 10 Stephen King adaptations list. I was impressed with the DVD picture though.
