Nellie's Dishwasher Powder - Tough on Food Residue, Plant-Based Ingredients, Spotless Clean, High-Efficiency Dishwashing Solution - 100 Scoop Tin

I wanted to try a more “natural” dishwasher detergent for health reasons and because occasionally our conventional detergent would leave a scent behind- unfortunately sometimes we wouldn’t notice it until we cooked had already with a pot or dish and then noticed the food tasted soapy or perfume-y. After using Nellie’s for several dish cycles at this point I’m pleased to say that it cleans just as well as, if not better than, our previous name brand dishwasher detergent, with no unwanted fragrance or soap residue. I appreciate that it comes in a. recyclable tin as well. Tip if you’re having issues: follow the directions on the tin- run the kitchen sink tap water until it is hot before you start a load. Dishwashers with heating elements are designed to keep water hot, but not heat water. This will help with all detergents, not just this one. Also, if you have hard water, consider using citric acid in the cycle as well to help with water spots. We have hard water and have had to use citric acid even with the more “conventional” detergents.

I tried this soap on my previous Samsung water wall dishwasher. Did not clean so well. It turns out Samsung just makes crappy dishwashers and require soaps with harsh chemicals to do most of the work. Upgraded to a Bosch 300 series and tried the soap again and it cleans 90% as well as the big brand name dish soaps with all the harsh chemicals. This soap does have a tougher time with dried stuck on food when dishes are left overnight sitting on the counter. Running a soak/rinse cycle prior to washing helps a lot for those situations. For the most part this soap has no strong perfumes and leaves glass wear sparkling. When I use this soap I run on Heavy setting with Sanitize + Extra dry and results are great even with heavy greasy dishes. For Dried stuck on foods this soap will struggle a bit.

Final review: Definitely made a mistake. Dishes NOT clean at all. There were streaks still and glasses all foggy and I could feel stuff on the plates. Thought maybe I didn't put in enough product and tried again with an extra rinse this time. Made no difference. Through in some regular detergent the 3rd wash and dishes finally clean. So VERY disappointed in the product. Too heavy to bother returning. Have been scouping it into dirty frying pans as an initial soak - not doing much good there either.Hard to get a good picture of something shiny but here they are, first after 3 washes with Nellie's and 2nd - 1 wash with other stuff.First Review: There is no scent as such, but it has a very mild smell (soda-like). Unlike others, there were a few things it didn't clean that well in the dishwasher, but I'm not sure if it's the soap or my dishwasher. I like it way better than the dishwasher soap I used that when you opened the door this horrid smell came out, so I'm happy with it. I'll see how it keeps doing in subsequent washes.

Talk about shrinkflation. I have never purchased this item before but after opening for the first time I was surprised to see that only half of the container was filled. Kind of disappointing.
