Fab theory book
This has been a great music theory book for my two 10 year olds, a good step up from the younger book that my daughter whom was already playing but not too complex for my son who has just started out. This was the one recommended by our violin teacher

Great for younger students
This whole series of Music Theory for Young Musicians is great for younger students. It has everything in one place, only one book required for each grade. The instructions are clear and concise, and they include lots of exercises, dealing with each concept from various angles, which makes the student learn and understand each concept very well. Also, thanks to the illustrations and use of colour, these books makes music theory learning seem a little bit less "scary": some of my younger students (8-9 year olds especially) have found some of the other available theory books difficult to use as they are a lot more "academic-looking" and therefore a little off-putting if this makes sense. These, however, they find quite fun and approachable.I can recommend this series if you teach music theory to younger students who are studying towards ABRSM exams.

Excellent theory book
This is a great theory book for 7-9 year olds, containing everything they need to know for Grade 1 in an approachable way. I use it a lot, and ordered two more copies, which were delivered promptly, as ever, and one in new condition. Sadly, the second has a damaged front cover (one-inch tear and longer crease) - not the end of the world, but a pity for a child who is expecting a nice, pristine new book, and who keeps music neatly and carefully.

Looks good.
These books look excellent. However, I am a complete adult beginner, just beginning a lifelong quest/desire to read music, and to play the piano to a reasonable standard. I have acquired a beautiful Yamaha instrument, and I now have the time to devote to my quest. My intention is to teach myself (very slowly!) (and yes, I am already well aware it all looks horribly difficult!), and so I have thoroughly researched all the available books, and basically bought them all! Profligate -yes. But my reasoning is that out of my now quite huge stack of books/courses, I should be able to find one that suits me better than the rest, and I can always use the others for reference, and to dip into if I get stuck.I have all five of these books, and I am already encouraged by what I have already gleaned by some serious flicking.Recommended - provisionally, as I am a complete beginner, so please bear this in mind.

Ordered workbook after reading the great reviews on Amazon
Ordered workbook after reading the great reviews on Amazon. My son is a grade 3 on classical guitar but has had very little of formal theory lessons. His guitar teacher did suggest another theory book but we found the book skimmed lightly over areas where my son was not comfortable with. Music Theory for Young Musicians has been an excellent choice in that it covers everything you need to know from scratch. For example child playing a instrument which only uses treble clef may get stuck when introduced to the bases clef as my son found. Also not been familiar with piano he couldn't get his head round why sharps and flats were required in major scales. There are lots of practice questions for student. I wish I had bought this book earlier, I have ordered grade 2 and 3 in the same series.

Excellent even for adult beginners
This book reminds me of the maths worksheet books we needed to fill in when I was a youngster (for those of you old enough to remember those, don't know if they still use them in schools). The way it used lots of different questions to reinforce the learning is excellent, so if you have 3 different types of reference it will ask you questions based on each set... very good way of teaching someoneIt is not over childish either (just a little more colourful with a few images here and there) to make you want to put it down.Am going to work my way up through the whole set of these books.

Lo recomiendo!
Los conceptos están bien explicados y el orden en el que se exponen me parece estupendo. Muy intuitivo y con muchas actividades. Lo uso con niños a partir de 8 años.Está en inglés.
