This is a great product that will provide a great deal of fun along with the opportunity to learn more about your favorite dinosaurs. The dinosaur skeleton is incased in a plaster/clay like material that you will have to chip away in order to expose the bones/skeleton. The excavation tools needed are provided and are far superior to other dinosaur excavation kits. A cool feature is that as you are excavate the bones you can usually see the impressions they left in the larger pieces of plaster/clay. Additionally, all of the bones/skeleton are made of strong, durable plastic. Even if you mistakenly hit the bones during the excavation, they remain intact with no visible signs of damage. Once you have excavated all of the dinosaur bones/skeleton you have to assemble it. I would suggest getting a bowl of warm water to rinse the bones and remove any of the remaining material from the skeleton. This is important because some of the plaster/clay can get stuck in the holes that you'll need for assembly. Another nice feature is that the dinosaur head is constructed in three pieces, which allows you to move it and open and close it's mouth. This is a great product that provides a realistic representation of the dinosaur coupled with a wonderful experience that brings paleontology to life and spurs interest and learning.

Fun for kids & learning experience

I was worried that the medium the Dino was in might be a little hard for the detailed and intricate parts. Luckily I was proved wrong, my son got all items out with little to no issue. Assembly was easy up to the skull which required my intervention and I struggled for a moment. Great gift, I got one for my son and one for a good friend of his for her birthday. Great value and provided us over an hour of fun getting it out.

This is not like others my child has done (and enjoyed, even if subpar to this one). This is a solid fossil to dig out. At first, I thought it wasn't going to be anything great, because it was just this relatively small cube. The other my kid did was huge. However, this was wonderful.It has tools that are actually pretty hefty, weighty, and not flimsy at all. They really work! We put this in a 9x13 pan and let the kid go to town. Took them a while, probably 30-45 minutes. Kiddo was able to assemble it alone and it's fabulous. This is not a fall-apart-when-you-try-to-put-it-together model; it's heavier and stands on its own. It's great! The others we have had from other models are plastic, don't go together well, and definitely don't *stay* together for viewing afterwards. This one gets knocked over onto the floor and stays in once piece - without glue.Definitely worth it. I'd get more.

It takes time to dig out. It's not a quick dig. Which was perfect.

My son loved digging for fossils. Make sure you have all the pieces before you throw away the clay. We had to get a large chunk back out of the trash to dig for one more tiny piece of the dinosaur. We superglued the pieces together and it has been a fun decoration. He loved the process.

Pretty good my boyfriend loved it as a birthday gift, the only problem is that the head doesn’t stay in place and falls apart when put together. Other than that really cool and good.
