Wouldn’t be without mine.
Excellent product. Worthwhile buying one if you need to use large cones of thread on your sewing machine. It makes using a large cone easy, & saves money in the long run as the small bobbins we’re used to buying can work out expensive if you do a lot of sewing.

Absolutely fabulous darling and Exceedingly fit for purpose
Absolutely fabulous darling. Purchased as I wanted to do some twin stitching and this is perfect for the job. Really sturdy. Very heavy weighted stand and easy to put together. I used it yesterday and it really does do the job. I haven’t tried one before but understand there are others available that are not weighted. I trust the PRYM brand and not at all disappointed.

Great Item for the Home Sewer
Great item for any machine sewer! Not many people realise that the way a thread is wound makes all the difference when it comes to unwinding (i.e.. using in your machine). If your threads are horizontally wound (like Sylko threads) then just pop them on your machine and away you go. However, if your threads are cross wound (like Guttermann threads), then the thread is designed to unwind from the top of the spool, not the side. If used on the top of the sewing machine, the thread is actually twisting as it unwinds. This will cause tension issues, and possible breakage of thread, as when twisted the thread will be twice it's thickness, there by not going through your needle smoothly. This spool stand enables you to let the spool unwind from the top, so you don't get any of these issues. I find it a great addition to my sewing tools, and it also means you can use cones of thread (normally used for overlockers/sergers) on your sewing machine. The base is a good weight, and won't fall over, even when you have your sewing machine running at it's fastest speed!

Why did I not buy this before?!
Recently bought a HUGE cone of cotton thread realising it is a much cheaper way to buy this but...it did not fit on my sewing machine...buy this item. Easy to set up - literally took a few mins of screwing the base and threader into place, sturdy and not lighly to topple over, thread runs perfectly to my machine, fantastic. I've used it briefly, stress free sewing, yay, what is there not to like, and at a great price too.

for cross wound thread
The mystery is why I've been sewing for so long without understanding how brands of thread are wound differently - see Emma's excellent explanation in the earlier review. Given that most UK sewists are probably using Gutermann thread which is cross wound, you would think sewing machine instruction booklets would make reference to this. I only realised when I bought a new Brother machine and noticed they said that the thread should unwind from the front of the spool - which I thought would mean putting the spool on upside down. I did a bit of research and realised what the problem was - the cross wound thread should unwind from the top of the spool, and the answer is to use a spool stand. I've certainly found that the top thread runs more smoothly, and, if you wish you can use cones as you do with an overlocker. This Prym stand has a good heavy base which is essential. A good find.

It does the job.
This works very well. It’s not too light so does not move around and holds the thread in the right position so that it runs smoothly.

Best ever cone stand
This is definitely the best ever cone stand I've ever had or seen. It has a heavy, metal base which makes it extremely stable and robust. The rods are metal too and screw into the base and there are NO plastic bits to split or break. It will however only hold one cone at a time, but if you need more cones just buy more of these stands. If you need a cone stand then this is the one to buy.
