What kind of batteries should you use?For best performance and longest life, we recommend a name brand Single Use alkaline battery eg. Energizer. These are rated at 1.5 volts each. DO NOT USE RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES. Check the rating and you'll see they top out at 1.3 volts. That's a pretty big sacrifice in power for re-usability; especially for a tool that's working pretty hard to get so much airflow through such a small device.It's a hard call about how many fires you'll get, but our tests show FiAir should kindle and stoke about 8-10 fires before requiring fresh batteries.Total efficient time is 50-60 minutes per fresh set of AAAs.That estimate is based on a cumulative total of about 5 minutes of FiAir usage per fire and an overnight rest for the batteries to recover. Will this work for a Big Green Egg?

How much force does it put out?

I gave it to my son for Xmas and he said it is perfect for its intended use. Not like a hair dryer for instance. Very much like a hand bellows. He is very happy with it and he uses wood stove to heat entire house full time.

Does it ignite coals?

No. FiAir doesn't light anything. But once you have the flame FiAir provides the air a fire needs to grow.Sounds like you're using charcoal there are many environmentally friendly ways to light a fire. Just look below on our page for Frequently Bought Together and you'll see two great suggestions. I usually cut these cubes into four pieces and distribute them low in the coals. That gives me 4 hotspots to work with and I'm usually cooking in 8 to 12 minutes. When I use one cube under a chimney starter and blow FiAir through the holes, I usually dump blazing coals in about 7.5 minutes instead of the usual 15.If you are a camper, FiAir is compact and weighs just 5.6 ounces so it's easy to take with you. You still have to light the wood, but if you're just a casual camper take some of these little cubes with you.Fireplaces, fire pits and wood stoves are much easier.
