A great funny, emotional read *****
I couldn't put this book down. It was a great read, funny and emotional with lots of twists and unexpected events. Mikayla Carlie is a great character, so young and vulnerable but so determined after taking care of her sick Mum for so long she goes in search of her Father to give him a piece of her mind. Blake Coast is the uptight CEO who just happens to be in the right place at the right time. A very bumpy ride for both throughout this story. I look forward to reading more.

emotional read took me by surprise
This book was not what i was expecting a lot of emotions got played with by Jettie. When i started the book it took me a bit to get into as there was so many questions to ask, why are they driving? Are they running or moving? Ando so many more that i will not tell you about so i do not ruin it for you. The story is like an onion, layers upon layers that get pulled back and reveal more information about the characters. This then pulls you in deeper to the story and characters. Give this book a try it will surprise you and make you see things differently va the characters and their lives.

This follows the story of Makayla and her support and love for her mom who is dying of cancer
Wow just wowThe way you get pulled into this book is unreal and how the past and the present are combined is just breath taking. This follows the story of Makayla and her support and love for her mom who is dying of cancer. When all gets to much she runs hard and fast but where life throws a curve ball she has to deal with what's around her and cope with it.Along the way she meets Blake who has a daughter that Mikki falls in love with named London but she is automatically named pea after a bed time story. The evolves and you can't help the emotions you feel for everyday life and what you take for granted. Can't wait to read the follow up book

Good Read!
Black Rain is about Makayla Carlie. She meets Blake Coast and starts working for him as his nanny to London, his daughter. London is three years old and Makayla falls madly in love with. She doesn't care much for the way Blake treats her and the way her mother does. London's mother is in and out of her life a lot. No one seems to have much time for her.The story does start off with Makayla and London on the run and Makayla is trying to keep London safe. It is quite hard to get into at first as i was really confused as to what was happening. Then the book just comes to life. Layers of the past get revealed one by one and i started understanding the story more. Oh my god! The secrets that i found out while reading are amazing ! and i never predicted any of them. It is a really good book and i'm glad i had the opportunity to read it. I can't say i felt a deep connection to the characters as half the book i was trying to understand what i was reading but the second part of the book was great and i thoroughly enjoyed it.

Everything happens for reason. Call it fate or coincidence but it pieced together creatively.
Mikki was young and impressionable. Mikki encouraged Blake to become his daughters nanny. Mikki taught Blake to see his daughter and become a good father. After having lost her mother Mikki set out to find her father to fulfill her mother's wishes. During her journey she stumbled upon Blake where she acquired the position of nanny. London was the perfect remedy for Mikki's sorrow over losing her mother. An innocent child that relied on love and attention. Mikki suffered great pain at the loss of her mother. Mikki's character was a sassy smart mouth teenager who behaved impulsively. Mikki's journey led her to Blake and London where she taught Blake the responsibility of fatherhood. London taught Mikki how to find love again.Throughout the story Mikki reminisced about fleeting moments with her mother. This was a nice way to introduce a loving character. These moments were shared in italics to identify easily. These scenes along with scenes between her and Blake were shared simultaneously. Mikki and Vicki were a team until Vicki was gone leaving Mikki to fend for herself. A teenager left to figure out adulthood with no female influence. Blake had a daughter named London. Blake's focus was not his daughter until Mikki made him see her.It was an interesting beginning to the story. I had no idea the direction of Black Rain. With some references regarding the meaning of Black Rain I still struggled to piece it together. The story finally unfolded during the last ninety percent. It all came together bringing clarity to how it all began.Kudos to Jettie for her vivid imagination. I'm reading along unsure what exactly I'm reading. I feel like I'm reading a compilation of memories. It's not a typical genre related story with definite elements. This was Mikki's journey after the loss of her mother. It's creative, unique, and unusual. It was cleverly written in an unsolved mystery fashion. Jettie definitely likes to surprise her readers with shocking information.Everything happens for reason.

Banding together over the love of a child
Black Rain (Rain #1)By: Jettie Woodruff4/5 starsThis book starts in the present with Mikki & Pea on the run & the reader has no idea why they’re on the run or where they’re going. Then it jumps back in a remembering scene a couple years earlier when Mikki met Pea’s father Blake. This is how almost the whole book is written. The two stories run concurrently, and both of them run chronologically.Mikki had an idyllic childhood for about the first 12-13 years, and then her mother fell sick. Her life drastically changed but the love between mother & daughter never wavered. Mikki never knew her father growing up, just that her parents had a summer fling. But she also never felt the loss of him such was the full life that she and her mother lived. But when she did go to seek out her father the during her mother’s second round of cancer, he did reject her. He tossed her aside & never came looking for her again. When Mikki meets Blake, she is in a bad place & in dire need of help, as in a place to live and a job. At the same time, Blake is in an inconvenient place and also needs help immediately, as in a nanny for his 2 year-old daughter London aka Pea. Blake, an ever-busy CEO of a chain of fancy resorts, never makes time for his daughter and never makes her a priority in his life. Pea lives a life where she is virtually unseen.Thankfully, after Mikki becomes Pea’s nanny, everything changes for that little girl. Mikki sees Pea and totally enriches her life just by showering her with love and attention. Mikki makes deals with Blake to get him to do things with Pea. Mikki tries to get Blake to see Pea, and I think that some of that is because her father never “saw” her, saw that she was a person, a child. It’s not an overnight transformation for Blake, but he does slowly start to see the wonder that is his daughter. Mikki begins to develop feelings for Blake and the same can be said for him.But the one, who receives the biggest benefit of love, is Pea. For me, she stole the story. For me, it was a child needing a savor, needing someone to see her, to nourish her spirit and enrich her life. She benefits from Mikki’s presence alone, and grows by leaps and bounds. Then Pea starts to bask in her father’s love. Mikki & Blake also bond over Pea, as she changes both of their lives. Their love grows deeper and Pea is the main catalyst for that. But not everyone is pleased with their newfound love & beginning of a family and something sinister is in the works. There’s plot to destroy the professional and personal lives which sends Blake to jail and Mikki on the run with Pea.

Loved it!
"There are two types of pain; one that hurts you, and one that changes who you are."I love the dynamic of this story. There is so much anticipation, so many questions, and the mystery of the story will not allow you to put it down. There's a lot that happens throughout. There are struggles and bonds, and the will to survive is prominent. It's emotional at times, has your heart racing at others, and laughing at the next. Jettie's writing keeps you in every moment, feeling so many different emotions. The bond between Mikki and Pea is beautiful and heartwarming. They save each other. But I also feel like Mikki and Blake save each other as well. Mikki is so strong willed , yet shattered, and Blake is so lost and detached. Their need for each other is evident, their connection intense, and the build-up leaves you wanting more. The way they help each other come to terms with their losses and lives is beautiful."You lost your soul mate." "Maybe I found her."Now, this story is more than just finding someone and healing. There are lies, deception, and twists. Get ready for a fun & crazy ride.I love the concept of Black Rain. It's so beautiful, yet tragic, and gives an essence of peace. My heart had just settled down and then I was shredded with that ending. And I have to tell you, I re-read those last 3 sentences 3 times. Now I must have more! Another must read by Jettie!"You make me live."

different but good
I have to applaud Jettie Woodruff as she is always working outside the proverbial box. Each book I read by her just kinda messes with my head and has me thinking hours after the last paragraph. Black Rain is no different. While I cannot say that I loved this book, I truly cannot say that I didn't. This story, is a fast coming of age of a young girl who lost everything with the death of her mother. At just 17 years young, Mikki herself an instant nanny. An attempt to find or get close to her "father" lands her into another world. She had no idea that caring for a sweet, innocent neglected girl would bring her the family she so desperately needed. But she also did not know the events and the changes her life would take to get to a place of more.I struggled with this book mainly because of the characters. Mikki is just 17...way to young to have the perspective and the sass to deal with a mature single father/weathly man-whore of a boss. As for Blake...just odd all-around. From hiring a lost sad girl to care for his young child, to propositioning the nanny for more. I think in the back of my mind I was reconciling the emptiness inside each character and for me their interactions were baby steps towards real intimacy and finally wanting more. At least that is h0w I pushed thru the tale hoping to get some human emotion from either Mikki or Blake.I also was a bit disconnected with the back and forth telling of the story with past and present scenes. So much was happening and it seemed a bit fragmented. Perhaps that is why Mikki and Blake felt off to me. So again, it seems as if this would have a lower rating, but again...Woodruff tells a good tale. I liked the twists and turns and I like the mind games she plays. Just when I was happy with the conclusion, again there is another "bump" that just cant let the end play out.
