Clinical Medicine for the MRCP PACES Pack (Pack) (Oxford Specialty Training: Revision Texts)

The BEST PACES revision book out there
This book (solely) got me through PACES. I bought about 7 different volumes of PACES revision texts (ACES for PACES, cases for PACES, MRCP revision etc) and looked through them all before selecting this one as the best laid out, containing the most information in the most easy to read and retain way. It's hugely detailed and will take you a long while to work through but the way it is laid out is excellent, and unique amongst the revision books. It covers every probable type of case by each different station individually starting with a "real patient" mock-up description of examination findings just as you would announce after you had examined a patient in the exam. Following that are a series of explanations of what these findings are and important things to watch out for and mention, ways to score gold star points in the eyes of the examiners. Lastly it goes through multiple different possible follow up questions and answers, all of which are hugely educational and not just exam tips.

Essential for PACES
Excellent core text for the MRCP PACES exam - though my main use was for volume 1. It is packed full of useful information, particularly on the "ideal" presentations of cases. I passed first time thanks to this book, though I also recommend Cases for PACES for refining the essential facts of the main presentations, not to mention an equally motivated study buddy! I didn't use Volume 1 much and found the Ethics section too wordy. Agree on the other reviewer that Ryder may be better for this.

I used this for my revision and was well prepared ...
I used this for my revision and was well prepared for all cases and questions in my exam. Although primarily designed for the PACES I also used it to supplement my reading when revising for part 2. The case-based format with typical presentations helped to galvanise information by contextualising the clinical information.

History and Communication Skills but I think there are other books out there which cover the history stations and comm skills st
I bought these two books in preparation for PACES and to be honest, did not really use them as much as I thought I would. I briefly skimmed over the Volume 2: History and Communication Skills but I think there are other books out there which cover the history stations and comm skills stations much betterVolume 1: Core Clinical Skills is useful for looking up the key features of the common conditions, but the book is structured in such a way which makes it difficult to follow, as it doesn't present the cases in order of frequency. It covers every possible scenario/ condition both the common and very rare!

Extremely useful
I read both these books and the gold/silver ones and although it's probably sacrilegious to write I thought they were better. The detail is almost identical but they are easier to digest and read. I used them almost exclusively towards the end - pretty much memorised word for word and then regurgitated them panic fashion in the exam- worked a treat!

Out of date/ multiple mistakes
This book seems not to have been updated since 2010... It still talks about HbA1c in % and there are newer therapies (like SGLT2 inhibitors) that aren't included. There are multiple typos and omissions. That said, gave me a decent platform to start from but would probably look somewhere else if i were you.

The only books that you need for PACES
Brilliant books that travelled with me everywhere in the month leading up to my exam. I didn't use any other books or revision software and passed on my first attempt. They are very detailed, but are easy to read and they really do contain everything that you need to know to pass. Highly recommended

Pages are thin, images are not clear.
The book's pages are very thin and the images seems like they are a copy of the original book. I am not sure about it, but that's the possibility that I cannot exclude. I don't know whether I have got the original book or the copy of the original book.
