Absolutely not ! All electrical fittings in a bathroom must be compliant with IP ratings so they're safe for you and others. Maybe get advice on this from an electrician or look for a bathroom safe IP Rating on light fittings. Read up on IP Rated lights that are safe for a bathroom - IP44 for instance. Please be safe.

No, it doesn't. Needs to be wired to mains light switch to control.

is this light self-insulating, or does it require to be earthed ?

It's a metal body and must therefore be earthed for safety and compliance

further to my first q i am using two 40watt bayonet bulbs at the moment but they do not last very long and get very very hot

Buy LED bulbs to replace. They're more expensive but will last many times longer and be far cheaper to run

Simple connections

Bought it to replace a similar looking light which had a 60w light tube. This one has 2 low energy LEDs which cost a lot less to run and gives a nicer appearance.

The right size and shape for my pictures. Easy to fit for my electrician.Look lovely with my grey walls, lighting reflects well and good adjustment for correct angle.

The price belies its quality.

I was surprised to see the quality of the fitting when I opened the box. Much better than I expected. My only gripe would be the colour temperature of the lamps were 4000K and not the usual 3400K for Warm White. Small niggle, no problem.

I missed the fact on the website that there was no built-in on/off switch so I had to modify the light to add one. Otherwise I was very happy with the quality and price. If you don’t need on/off switch buy this one.
