These are extraordinary!
No pictures can accurately portray just how beautiful these bowls truly are. The vibrancy of some colors and the subtlety of others are a pleasure for the eyes.I know that sounds like hyperbole but it’s just an honest expression of how I see the bowls and the flowers that decorate them. Now on to the less grandiose technical details. The bowls feel solid and very sturdy. The shape is uniform all around the bowls and the glazing is deep, even, and flawless. The edges are formed thick enough to allay any worries about easy chipping. I don’t know what a perfect bowl would be but these are closer than any I’ve ever owned.I know it’s easy to be skeptical about Vine Voice reviews. I certainly was before I was invited to join the program. But I can tell you with complete honesty that there’s absolutely no pressure to write anything other than my honest opinion. Zero, zip, nada. My 1star reviews are posted just the same as my 5 star reviews. So when I say these are great bowls you can take it to the bank.Speaking of the bank, I know these carry a pretty hefty price tag. But you’re paying for quality of production and artwork. If you can fit these bowls into your budget I say get them. They’re that good.Hope this is helpful to you and enjoy your day.

Beautiful, Portmeirion England, From Clay. But Different Bowl Sizes?
FeaturesShinyPrettySturdyUniqueDurableBalancedFully glazedNice weightFreezer safeEarthenwareHandcraftedQuality finishMade from clayMicrowave safeScratch resistantDishwasher safeRestaurant qualitySaid to be (warm) oven safe to (225°)“Portmeirion”, is (50) year old name brandReplacements/additions available on internetMade at Stoke-on-Trent, England (UK)ConsiderationsThe bowls are not all the same size? How received? We received each bowl heavily wrapped in bubble wrap. They even survived the spouse dropping the box from about (3) foot. Three (3) of the bowls had an upper diameter of (5”), which was consistent with our order, however, the fourth was (5½”). Each of the (5”) bowls weigh (9) ounces, but that odd ball sized larger bowl is near (11) ounces.Made from?Clay (earthenware also known as ceramic).Made where?Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England. The pottery mark notes “Made in England.”“Portmeirion” is a relatively new name brand, for English made earthenware, their history, for this particular design, only dates back about (50) years ago, versus some older names measured in the hundreds of years; we like name brand products. Why? Because name brand products have high quality standards and stand behind what they sell; that includes “Portmeirion”. So, if there is a defect, we can look to “Portmeirion” to honor their warranty. Further, if we need an additional piece, to add or to replace in our growing collection, we can look to “Portmeirion” to likely have what we want. Which brings us confidence in any “Portmeirion” product, including this tableware (fruit/salad bowls).Bottom line:We are pleased with our selection. Although there are two (2) issues, one (1) of which we are going to take a star away.First, there is a non-glazed spot on the reverse of each of the fruit/salad bowls. However, we saw some of how the production of tableware takes place. The piece does not simply “float through the air” to and into the glazing and firing areas of production. Rather, the plate is carried by some sort of conveyor type racks, which leads us to believe these unglazed spots are where the fruit/salad bowls rested while moving through the production process. When the product is prepared for packing, our understanding is that the worker looks at the top and then stacks with the bottom facing up, so there is opportunity to do a quality control check. If this were outside of tolerances, we are confident the piece would have been rejected. The second issue is that we received three (3) five (5”) in diameter bowls, however, a fourth is 5½”. Does not sound like much, however, it is enough to nest the five (5”) bowl inside. Plus, now, we do not have a complete set of four (4) bowls, with that odd-sized bowl. I think this a quality control issue, somewhere down the line. Somebody did “not” catch the difference and labeled this with a paper sticker as being a 5” rather than 5½” bowl. Further, did not place the size on the bottom of the bowl, with the manufacturer’s mark. The use of the fruit/salad bowls, which are stackable, is only limited by the owner’s imagination. Our toddler saw this fruit/salad bowls, was amazed over its good looks and their first spoken thought was this could be used as a (toddler sized) cereal bowl.... Yes, and something to pass onto the next generation, that’s how nice these fruit/salad bowls are. ;0)The price is upper-mid level. But considering its location of manufacture, by a handmade type of process, classic old-world quality, this is a bargain, when considering the totality. We applaud those who started “Portmeirion.”I hope my thoughts offered information.

Very pretty for special dessert or just to display
I really love these pretty bowls. I got them thinking they’d be nice to serve cereal in on special mornings, so not really super special. But when I unpacked them, I realized I wanted them on my display hutch instead. I have actually served a special ice cream sundae desert in them, too. While it says they are dishwasher safe, I hand wash mine because I want the gorgeous designs to stay pretty for as long as possible. They look beautiful on display next to my china plates and my Franciscan Ware Dusty Rose cups and saucers. They have a vintage look and, despite what I expected, not too country looking. While I am super careful with all of my dinner ware, my boyfriend can be inadvertently hard on them, and I often see small chips where his oversized spoon hits the side of a bowl. I’m glad to say I have not seen that on these, so maybe they really are chip-resistant. If you like serving pretty food in pretty dishes, like I do, these are a nice addition, particularly if you also love roses (that’s me too!).

4 ceramic bowls
We really like this set of ceramic bowls for their flowery design. We did receive four bowls that were all the same size at 5 inches each. I know others have said that they received different size bowls, but that was not what we received. These bowls are not bad for snacks and desserts. They are dishwasher safe, safe to use in the microwave and oven safe up to a certain degree. They worked really well for us, and we like the design of the plates. They also do seem sturdy and well-made as long as you don't drop them on a hard floor surface.

Absolutely gorgeous!
These are those dishes you always wanted as a child for tea parties. They are so beautiful! They are tiny, please check your measurements because 5 inches is not going to hold much food. Portmeirion is a well known, highly sought after brand and due to that you will pay for the quality. I read the other reviews and all of my bowls were uniform, so hopefully it was a shipping issue and has been resolved. My one gripe is that each plate came with a barcode sticker that left residue and had to be cleaned off. Thankfully these are dishwasher safe. I haven't tested that, at this price point I will be hand washing them!
