Very good motor and control system
I am impressed with the motor. The control system is more sophisticated than a Bafang or Bewo mid drive as it isn't simply a rev limited system based on power setting. The result is that the bike feels much more like a real bike. You get power assist all the way up to the speed limit - it just feels more natural. Some lazy cyclists might not like it if they don't want to pedal but I think it is better. The system can tolerate strong pedalling - I have broken other drive systems but this seems to be holding up.

small inclines and when feeling too tired after poor sleep. Power and turbo setting on hills
Does the trick, the only worrying thing is play in the bottom bracket bearings. Hope manufacturers will notice this and sort it out as demands increase. A bit of an excessive vibration from the spur gears, although can't notice it while riding. Performance was satisfactory during 75km trip, was able to climb trough four hills (with 15-20km/h speeds using standard low cost 7 speed Shimano cassette on 1th and 2th gears, 700c wheels, 101kg overall weight on turbo setting) which were 170 meters in hight and with 7% incline. Was left with more or less 50% of 10.5 Ah battery level and sore quadriceps. The assist wasn't used half the time, eco and tour setting was used during headwinds, small inclines and when feeling too tired after poor sleep. Power and turbo setting on hills. Average speed 17km/h only due to riding trough towns and many roundabouts, time spent: 3 hours and 30 minutes.Motor starting could be less jerky, I guess soft start PWM isn't used on all ebikes. Torque sensing works but does seem a bit too sensitive and isn't smooth enough.

Useless without a battery, too much hassle trying to find one when Bafang do a complete package including battery.
I would have bought this item but the option to buy a compatible battery was not given to me, Bafang sell a complete package including everything needed to do a conversion. Tongsheng's product means a lot of hassle and risk trying to find a compatible battery, why bother when Bafang do it all in one?

Good motor, not sure about the control.
The torque sensing motor gives a more natural feel than the alternative Bafang. There is a bit more noise than the Bafang, especially going up hill at low cadences. There are no instructions but the motor is easy to fit if you have the knowledge and tools to remove the existing bottom bracket.I wanted the XH18 twist grip control as the alternative VLCD5 can be awkward to use with its control buttons. However, the twist grip is too sensitive causing unintended power changes. The access to change parameters such as wheel size, kph/mph, speed limiter is easier than on the VLCD5. However, although the speed change parameter is accepted, the motor still stops delivering power at about 13-14 mph as though it hasn't accepted the new limit. On balance I prefer the alternative VLCD5 control.

Absolutely excellent. Finding a compatible battery was not an issue ...
Got this two weeks ago. Absolutely excellent. Finding a compatible battery was not an issue unless you are very non-technical. Faultless in operation it was very easy to fit. Some care needed for the connections as they are very "fine" and could be damaged through careless figment. Really enjoying my old bike again.

I liked it so much I bought another
I installed one of these for my disabled friend to help her get some gentle outdoor exercise. I was so impressed that I built another bike around the TSDZ2 for myself. I like to ride on country paths but getting there requires a few miles of hilly roads - this motor makes the hills a lot less arduous. The torque sensor provides smooth control, and tweaking the assist level is easily done with the little VLCD5 remote button cluster under my left thumb. The built-in lighting circuit is a neat touch, again easily controlled with the remote buttons. Choosing and fitting a suitable battery isn't hard if you have a basic electrical knowledge and the ability to solder/crimp connections, I chose different types for each build to suit each bike's size and use.
