Quick and filling, as long as you follow the instructions
I was a little apprehensive about ordering these, particularly as there had been a number of one-star reviews. However, when they arrived it became clear that those people who said they tasted horrible, or felt slimy, clearly hadn't followed the instructions on the packet. The bottom line is that this is a tasteless alternative to rice (it's actually just the noodle version of the same product chopped into tiny pieces) that you can quickly make and add to your favourite dish. I've tried it with curry, chilli, and as a side to casserole and it really nice, and didn't impinge on, or dilute the taste of the dish it was accompanying. When the instructions say you have to rinse them three times in warm water, you really need to follow that advice. If you don't, they do taste very chemically as they come in a starch buffering solution in order to hold their shape (they're made of mostly water). But, it does warn you on the packet. I'd also suggest stirring it part way through microwaving it to help some of the moisture evaporate. Overall, a good way to help with weight loss or weight management.

Ewwwwww. Rubbery and tasteless
I saw an advert for this and thought "WOW" this is the answer to filling me up without calories. So I made the mistake of buying 5 packets. I was surprised by it's appearance. It looks like chopped up spaghetti and nothing like rice. It has a very odd smell but this does go after rinsing. I followed the instructions and added a curry sauce I had made and tucked in. Being a stubborn person I did make it do the bottom of the bowl but never again. It's chewy, slimy, the sauce doesn't coat the "rice" the way it does with real rice. The texture in your mouth I can only describe as what a mouthful of maggots may feel like. It's almost impossible to chew, just breaks up into smaller fragments of bits. Each mouthful became more difficult to eat and by the time I had got to the bottom I was feeling a bit sick. If this is the effect eating this stuff is supposed to have then it's a success but only because it puts you off eating anything at all for hours and hours. I would rather eat nothing than eat the remaining bags I have left.

Remarkably successful when used in keto recipes. Fantastic keto pastitsio ingredient.
I was nervous about this ingredient after reading the reviews but I decided to try it anyway and I am so glad I did. I have used other brands of konjac noodles for three years and the brands I usually use do not have any smell so I was wary of this brand. I rinsed the penne thoroughly under cold water and then sat them in a bowl of warm water with a teaspoon of baking powder for twenty minutes. Then I rinsed them again with boiling water and microwaved them for a minute and then rinsed them again with boiling water. After all that the smell had gone but I was hoping they would do well in my pastitsio recipe because it was a lot of work if they were going to be nasty. Well the results can be seen! The finished recipe tasted amazing. The true test was whether it would hold up when it cooled down as the best thing in my opinion is cold patstitsio in a nice solid chunk. Indeed it was absolutely fine and delicious. A few days later I made keto macaroni cheese - making a cheesy sauce from melted mozzarella and cheddar and cream cheese with mustard and vinegar (so it was like a fondue) and stirred the microwaved penne into the sauce. Again a total success. I am convinced. I have ordered the rice, noodles and lasagne versions from this brand however I have purchased the eco packs as they just have the plastic pouches in one box instead of five individual boxes. Oh and the portions are much more generous than the brand I used to buy. I was stuffed full after my macaroni cheese and wasn't sure I would be able to finish it. My other brand used to need bulking up with plenty of veg to be a filling meal but these are very substantial. Properly used in a recipe it is difficult to tell the difference from genuine pasta - especially if you prefer the real stuff al dente.

Better than simply reducing portion sizes
I would agree with other reviewers on a few points; These are not as delicious as pasta. In fact, that is an understatement. However, to expect them to be as delicious as wheat or egg pasta for less than 30 calories a bag is, I think, to expect too much. Since when have mock "diet" products ever had the same flavour as the real deal? They do smell mildly unpleasant once you take them out of the bag. However, I think to describe the smell as "revolting" is overstating things by quite a bit (although the bad reviews did make me laugh). I personally do not find the smell as bad as the kind of smell that can waft up once you open a packet of Turkey Ham, for example. Also, the smell vanishes once you rinse the pasta. They have no flavour without the addition of sauce. I do think they are edible without sauce but the eating experience will not be nice. Really, if you want a decent meal the addition of sauce is a must. The texture is a bit more tough and rubbery than usual pasta but it is not unpleasant. I do not think they are at all "slimy" once the water has been drained off. The major plus for these is that they will really pad out a meal if you are on a low carb diet, for whatever reason. This is basically such a major plus point that it is enough to counteract all the negative points for me. This is the reason I have re-purchased the Slim Pasta and Noodles range repeatedly and will continue to re-purchase them. Also, once a decent amount of sauce and other ingredients are added in with the Slim Pasta, the texture of the pasta is quite unnoticeable (i.e the mind and belly can be fooled into thinking this is the real deal). Adding say pesto, tomato pasta sauce, mushrooms chicken and cheese in with these means you will stay full for much longer than if you simply decided to forgo the pasta. Better than simply reducing portion sizes if you are on a diet, in my opinion. Price is a bit hefty, though.

✅ Ottimo prodotto shirataki.
