Q: whats the maximum post size?

There isn't really a maximum post size as the bracket is L-shaped, so it can be gripped by hand on to any width of post as necessary - I found this really useful for quick checks, rather than fixing the level to the piece you are setting. If you wish to fix the level to the piece, there is an elastic band supplied, which would be suitable for square posts up to around 100mm by 100mm. If the band is too short you could use something else that you may have to hand, such as a longer piece of elastic, a length of gardening wire, or a piece of string. In terms of length of the post: there would be no limit. Aim to put the level towards the top of a vertical post; as high as you can manage and still see clearly. That way you will get the best results, as any error in the standing of the piece will be largest further away from the ground, and so more visible in the bubble of the spirit level(s).

It secures around the post with an elastic band (provided) and gives accurate measurements.

Q: How is this item to accurate post being straight and level

It was good enough for my purpose which was for fencing posts. I didn't actually check with a bigger spirit level - partly because it was good enough and partly because the posts are just stripped chesnut, hence not perfect edges. I can say it was easy to use.
