Not tonight, I'm doing me Airlock
The Trotec Airlock is brilliant as a seal when hanging an air conditioning pipe out of a window as it simply zips around the pipe and attaches to the window frame with velcro self adhesive strips. The only downside is that Trotec seem to vary the price between £15 and £30 depending on the time of year. I have an awning window which is about 168 inches all around the inside perimeter. The Trotec airlock does not cover this length fully but manages the bottom and most of the sides. For the rest I push a sponge like material in the top section of the window, and this mostly does the job. Depending on your window you may need gaffer tape at the corners, but the window seal itself almost does the job. Anyone with a portable air conditioner knows that they can create a negative air pressure as they take more air out of the room than they put back in. When I first used the Trotec airlock I found the negative pressure increased. This was due to the Airlock creating such a good seal around the window that the air was pulled out of the room by the air conditioner and was not replaced unless I opened a door slightly to let more air into the room. Very effective and well worth the money - especially if you get it at the cheaper price.

It works!!!
It arrived from Germany quickly and for less than £15 was good value for money. I was able to install this alone on a smaller window than I had originally intended and it still worked with just a few tweaks as it was a bit too big for the window. Where I ended up with too much material I just concertinerd the Velcro and stuck in in place. The sticky side that sticks to the window and frame is very strong and has so far everything has stayed well in place. The material and zip are both good quality and it holds the aircon tube securely in place. Although this seems a novel remedy it does actually work. You can still open and close the window too. I think I'll leave the Velcro in place when I remove the rest of the material when the season is over and put up some insect net instead so great dual usage.

Effective
Not a pretty solution - this forms a seal around the window to stop too much hot air entering, though it is by no means draft proof, stop bugs and debris and allows you to poke the exhaust for the air conditioner out of the gap - and you can then zip up to the pipe. Not pretty but effective as you can close the window when you don't need a pipe out of the window. It might be interesting to know that my Trotec air conditioner came with a box of bits without instructions that turned out to be a rather well made panel for attaching the exhaust pipe to an open sliding window. There is a grille to go over the end of the pipe and plates to blank off the inevitable gaps that an open sliding door-with-a-pipe-attached will leave. If I'd had a sliding door, the window seal would certainly have been redundant.

Excellent idea and quality product
I bought this for my Living Room but it is too small for the window. My Bedroom Window might be small enough but that window only pivots and opens at the top about 6 inches. The Hose will not reach that high, plus it will look huge in my window when looking at it from the outside. The product itself feels very strong, feels like tough canvas or denim, but made of plastic. There is a ZIP running the entire length in the middle, so if you have a small standard side window this fits - your hose can be attached anywhere around it.Though it doesn't say it comes with the attachment at the end of hose which you see in the picture, I confirm it does not come with it and neither does a hose.

Good Idea, Poor Product
This is absolute rubbish and whatever you do, leave it alone.Mine came by DHL from Germany in a non sealed back with destructions in German, Italian and the English was ripped/smeared.

A great idea, but the picture and description don't reflect ...
A great idea, but the picture and description don't reflect my experience.According to the description at the time I bought it, it's "Easy to install", "these perfect air exchange guards fit all normal window types and sizes with a maximum perimeter of 400 cm" and "Intrusion of warm exhaust air" will be "a thing of the past".My window is side opening and has has a perimeter of 288cm and I struggled to get it to fit properly. I had to create loops/folds and seal these with duct tape to create a decent seal. The duct tape tends to fall off in humid weather and needs to be reapplied. It also doesn't form a "perfect air exchange guard", as you can feel air escaping between the two velcro layers, around the zip, and through any gaps created when trying to make it fit a smaller window. It's more effective than an open window and it holds in place better than the seals made from black bags and cardboard I tried previously, but it's definitely not perfect. To summarise, it certainly works better than having no seal and it held in place better than cardboard or a black bag, but you may have a bit of an adventure fitting if your window is significantly smaller than 400cm it and it may not look as pretty as in the photos when you're done.(I did contact the seller for guidance on how to fit it on windows smaller than 400cm, as the instructions don't tell you how to do this, but they didn't seem to accept there was an issue and kept insisting that the product had been tested on various sizes/types of windows and there was no minimum window size.)

Perfect
If you're like me and was very skeptical about items like this and thinking its too good to be true then prepare to be proven wrong. This item is ABSOLUTELY perfect and worth every penny spent. I have a open out window unlike the display picture and did not think it would work at all. Yet again i was proven wrong. The sticky tape was so easy to attach and its nice and thick and has not damaged my window either. Im very pleased with this item and so glad i took a chance on purchasing it. It was fitted in under 5 minutes to our office window i couldnt be happier. No more flies in the office now this completely blocks it right out. Its larger than i expected but im not bothered as it can be then used on an even biggee window.
