Worked great for me.
I have an issue overtightening stuff. I had oil filter on my household generator I could not get off. I change oil and filter every 6 months, so it was my fault. I could not budge it with a regular band type filter wrench. I had a one of those strap wrenches with 1-inch-wide rubber strap and a plastic handle, aka "knuckle buster from hell" . I ended up putting a cheating bar on the handle and it (see photo) just twisted the metal on the filter and broke the strap wrench. I looked at different videos and alternatives and chose this one. I was glad, its beefy and heavy. I put a 1/2 drive socket and a short extension and got a good grip, and it spun right off, no problem. Great results for me.

Commercial Grade
Seems like quality tool used once, worked as I expected. I would recommend this without worry.

Great for more that oil filters
Different problem: My problem was not an oil filter but the light in the back of my Viking oven. It has a screw-on glass cover that is hard to reach and after 30 years of oven use, it got stuck too tight to loosen by hand. This tool, with multiple extensions on a hand rachet wrench, was just the right tool to loosen the glass cover. My local appliance repair people were going to charge me over $100 to replace the assembly. What I wish: I (thought I) had to hold the jaws of this tool open while I placed it on the class cover. After I had successfully gotten the job done, I discovered that if I had just turned the wrench clockwise to start with, it would have locked open until I got it in place, then turning the wrench counterclockwise, the jaws would close and do the deed. I wish that little suggestion had been included. And maybe a 3/8" to 1/2" adapter for the socket wrench.I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it now. It looks like it's very well made and should last a lifetime of use. But I don't think I'll need to replace that particular light bulb in what's left of my lifetime. It was still a lot cheaper than my appliance people.

Grip on filter was a bit shallow
This item worked as intended. Clamping sides could have could have allowed for better grip on filter. Grip was a bit shallow. The action was a bit crude and not smooth. I should be complaining about how tight JD put oil filter on mower engine at factory. Not cool.

Slips on tight filters
Slipped. Didn't get the filter loose. Ended up getting another product. Might work with hand tight filters though

Maybe overcomplicated for what it needs to be. 2010 XTERRA use.
I do not often regret buying something, but after getting this and realizing the local fleet supply has specific thin metal cupped style filter removers, I would have gone that route for how easily this ended up turning off with a ratchet. That was AFTER struggling to get this on vertically and stay put solidly enough to be confident I was not damaging my oil filter. It begins to tighten, but only after you start the turning process to apply torque to the device, which can be a real PITA if youre in a tight space and just want the thing clamped on the filter first. I wish this had something to first fix it to the filter, before applying the ratchet and turning to free it. Instead, I was left in an insane position trying to hold it flat against the end cap of the filter, while also turning the "take up" and then luckily getting the filter to spin off enough to finish by hand.If this sound fun to you go for it...otherwise this is overbuilt for a single use instance. Maybe cool to be that guy that has the filter, so your friends can call you for it in the middle of winter.

Works great
Have used this several times and works great. Can't get to my filter using one that straps around the filter.
