IDC© - i4 aptX Codec Wireless Bluetooth Music Receiver
This device may well provide the answer to many people's prayers because it provides a bridge between the older, wired, audio entertainment technology and the newer wireless (Bluetooth) technology. The device is basically a Bluetooth receiver with multiple output connection options, including the older 3.5mm stereo jack point and the more modern 30-pin connector as found on iPods and iPads but which has become a defacto standard and been adopted by many entertainment system manufacturers. See product description for a comprehensive but still incomplete list. This device is used to eliminate the cable that usually connects a sound source with a sound receiver. Taking a specific example, a typical, older generation audio power amplifier may have a simple 3.5mm stereo jack socket for an input. In a 'wired' configuration, a cable from the audio source, e.g. radio, record player, tape player, CD player, microphone, computer, etc., is plugged into the power amplifier to complete the setup. The cable carries the music (say) as an ANALOGUE signal between sound source and sound receiver. In a 'wireless' (Bluetooth) situation the cable is dispensed with altogether and the IDC Codec is plugged directly into the power amplifier, in this particular example, using its 3.5mm stereo jack point. All that is now necessary is arrange for the sound source to transmit the music (say) as a DIGITAL Bluetooth signal. Most modern laptops can handle Bluetooth signals and sound sources are now appearing on the market with inbuilt Bluetooth technology. Pairing - the wireless equivalent of using a cable in a wired system - is automatic and therefore simpler. A cable carries just one analogue at a time whereas the IDC Codec can manage any 1 of 8 sound sources with no additional equipment involved. But the IDC Codec feature list does not end there. It has an inbuilt microphone and a rechargeable battery giving up to 12 hours service on a single charge. The IDC Codec can be used powered so that the battery is not drained.I purchased my IDC Codec mainly for use with my 1st generation Marley Bag of Rhythm (MBoR) entertainment system into which an iPod can be inserted or an external sound source connected via the integral 3.5mm stereo jack socket. The 2nd generation MBoR has Bluetooth built-in. My IDC Codec effectively 'upgrades' my 1st generation MBoR to its 2nd generation cousin without spending a great deal of money. It is a far cheaper option just to upgrade my MBoR rather that buy a newer MBoR with Bluetooth. The IDC Codec has numerous application possibilities, too many to mention here. However, the product description gives a clue as to just what is possible.

Wow, what a product. It really does live up to the spec stated. It came within 2 days and plugged it into my 2nd Gen Bose and used with my ipad air and my iphone 5s. The music quality is amazing. I’m guessing that’s the apt-X chip inside to give it the clear crystal sound. The other reason I bought it because of I have an old Sony Hi-fi (didn’t have the heart to throw it out) which I want to stream music through. This adapter has the Apple 30 pin connection and the can be connected via 3.5mm AUX as well. It worked a treat. The aux cabled was provided, and easy set up just like on my Bose dock. The auto-pair function seems to be working fine. Remembers my devices straight away.Just the Hands free function to try yet. Haven’t tried so I can’t comment on this. All round 5*. I highly recommend this premium adapter. Don’t hesitate. It’s a great adapter.

Lenco player bluetooth IDC
I have set it on a Lenco sound system, works fine with iPhone 4 but my ipad does not recognise Bluetooth connection. Quite happy with that quality of music good. Not tried cable option that may work on the ipad.

Simple and robust
I have been wanting to change my hardwired BOSE and iPod to wireless for some time. I had been recommended the iDC company they had just the kit I needed, I took a leap of faith. Perfect.

Not aptX as advertised
This Bluetooth receiver advertised as supporting aptX, this is false. The Bluetooth chip used is a Qualcomm CSR8635 which does not support aptX. When connecting via my phone, the codec used is SBC.Works fine as a Bluetooth receiver but the sound quality is not what I had hoped for.

A quick review of the IDC i4, used with an iPhone 6s and Gear4 speakers.
The IDC i4 fits securely in the old style 30 pin docking station and connection via Bluetooth is very simple via the phone (turn on, search, connect) and it remembers the last device connected. Sound quality has been flawless as long as your not 2 rooms away with walls between the i4 and phone (though that would be an issue with Bluetooth and not the i4). There are 3 buttons on the i4 which have several functions. - & + first skip down/up songs or if held adjusts volume. The Multi Function Button (MFB) turns on/off/pause/play (untested: the MFB also accepts incoming calls, declines incoming calls, dials last number, ends call, accesses Siri). Calls can be heard through the speakers. There is a rechargeable Li-ion battery (untested: 10-12 hours battery life, 2-3 hours charge time, 10 days standby as stated in the user guide), my speakers power the i4 and charge it up. There is an AUX out for connection to headphones and the i4 if you wished to keep the phone free from being wired up (untested). There is a mic on the side for speaking into for calls/Siri (untested). On the phone screen, next to the Bluetooth symbol, is a handy battery indicator. There is also a useful user guide and AUX wire in the box.All in all, a nice piece of equipment that lets me use my old and decent 30 pin speakers with plenty of additional functionality.
