Blast from the past
The media could not be loaded. I used to own the original many years ago as my main hill walking watch... And I loved it! So seeing this was an immediate buy for me, especially as it was under £100.Well, it arrived and I must admit I was a bit concerned to see it was packaged in a thin brown paper bag with little to no protection for the watch box itself (come on Amazon, a protective box or thick padded bag should be a minimum for items like this!).Anyway, upon taking the box out of the bag the lid of the box immediately fell off... No retaining tabs.... But the watch inside looked to be undamaged and the watch was secured in place with a plastic tie. Then I noticed the TIMEX logo on the front of the watch was upside down when compared to the label and text on the back of the box when the lid was replaced. And yes, it can only be fitted one way. (See video clip) and I'm crossing my fingers and putting this down to Timex and a lack of quality control! Was this a fake/copy watch? I really did have my doubts about it, but after a couple of days, I snipped the plastic tie, took it out of its box and set the watch up.Well, I happy to report, the watch keeps excellent time and is just as good as I remembered my original watch to be.... The strap is seriously stiff and a pain to fasten, but once on the wrist, the watch is nice and comfortable. The hands and compass hand can be a little difficult to see when you first use the watch due to the colour of the background. However, once you get used to it, they are no longer an issue (well, not to me anyway). Just make sure you give yourself a day or two to settle in with the watch face and you'll be fine. The indigo backlight is brilliant and the look of the watch when on your wrist is something else... It looks awesome.Compass and tide features work well, though they do require a fair bit of setting up.A small (paper sheet) user manual is in box... It's hidden inside the cardboard watch stand itself, so don't throw the stand away before taking the manual out.If it's not there and as some have said, it can easily be downloaded from the Timex website. Some users have also said the compass hand is not set at the 12.00 and looks odd. Well, neither was mine.... Soooo, easy instructions below :o)To move and set the compass hand:Pull out the center crown to the last click.Push either of the buttons above or below the crownThis will move the compass hand very slowly one step at a time in either direction.Once you are happy with the placement of the compass hand push the crown button back into placeNow, I found this had to be done numerous times as the compass hand tended to drift slightly after a while... But now it's held steady at 12.00 for days.Overall and inspite my initial concerns, I'm really happy with this watch, and if it lasts as long as the original, I know I'll be wearing it for years to come.If chunky outdoor or just large-ish and smart watches are your thing, then I highly recommend you give this watch a go.... You'll be happy you did.

Good looking, small flaws
I love the look of this watch and have a real fondness for the indiglow with brown leather style as it reminds me of one I still have from the early 90s.However, unlike the older version, this one isn't so easy to read in the dark due to the hands. The indiow is great but the minute hand is hard to distinguish from the 'compass?' hands. Never really been able to figure these out. No instructions in the box.The strap is pretty stiff, too. Not uncomfortable, quite the opposite. But, the first loop it runs through is difficult to thread and will break over time I fear. This was a problem on the 90s version, too. You would have thought the designers would have caught on by now.Overall, very pleased with it, despite the small faults. Ultimately, it's a low cost fashion watch that keeps good time so does what it says on the box.

⭐☆☆☆☆ Came defective, can't keep time correct, watchface too busy
Beautiful looking watch, I ordered it despite reading many reviews on bad quality.Turns out to be a mistake, it comes in a very humble package with no protection. Some of the areas on their photos that look black are actually silver, for my taste the watch looks too "busy" because the fourth hand really blends in with watch hands and it is not that easy to have a glance and see what time it is.The temperature meter is a joke, I am not sure what I expected but you have to take it off hand for a few minutes to show something close to ambient temperature, while wearing it it shows a blend of ambient and body temperature, around 35c.Compass seemed fine, although I haven't checked it against a real one.1 star for all that, and another 1 star for amazon return experience from Ireland. Zero help in getting this defective watch back to them while they keep my money.

Hard to read and complicated
A great watch but returned as was complicated. Looked good though. Dial was a bit to white which made it hard to read.

Good watch, some let downs
Lovely looking watch, compass and temperature great features (cant say how accurate the tide was living in the midlands). However the large button to adjust the time/illuminate got caught on something and came off rendering the watch useless. The button is a lot larger than it needs to be! I cant find out a way to get it repaired without spending the equivalent on replacing it.

A great watch at an even greater price
Its been a long time since I owned a Timex watch, in fact the last Timex I owned was in secoundary school nearly 30 yearsago. So when my current watch packed up I looked around for a replacement there was plenty to choice, but it was an easyone to make as soon as I came across the Timex Expedition E-Tide Temp Compass Watch T2N721SU my mind was madeup, I had to have it.Packed full of features but with a less is more styling you got the normal hands hours, minutes and seconds, a forthhand is used for the rest of the features ie: compass, tempreture and tide time which all work well once set up and thewhole face lights up for about 5 seconds for night use. There is one minor issue and that is the date section is rather small and the same gose for the temp and tide scales area bit on the small side considering the size of the face, other than this it is a very easy to use watch and a very nice looking with a very soft but heavy duty leather strap and a all stainless steel case and back and a scratch proof crystalface that is as heavy duty as they come. But the best part is the price at £67.50 its just over £90 off the retail price you cant go wrong as its a lot of watch for asmall amount of money.I highly recomend this watch to anyone who likes outdoor adventure or anyone who just want a good looking watch.
