Incredible and transformative!
I've just received this incredible book a few days ago, and although I still have much to read, it is life changing! Lani's heart and soul shine through in this book as she shares so much of herself. I instantly felt a connection to everything that Lani had to say! Being vegan for the past 6 years is one of the best choices my family has ever made. It has literally transformed our lives, including putting my teenage daughter's Crohn's disease into remission. My compassion for animals keeps me firmly grounded in this choice, as well as my passion for the healthiest, happiest life possible.In spite of healthy eating and regular exercise, there was something missing. I've known for awhile that I needed to do some "Internal work" to live my best, most joyful life. Meditation practice has always been difficult for me, and I've never known quite how to approach it. Lani's book makes it so accessible, including a 30 day plan to train ourselves in mindfulness...just a little more each day as we grow in this practice. With her expert guidance we can learn to navigate "disquieting states" (anxiety, stress, restlessness, boredom, fear, etc.) and ease them without reaching for unnecessary or unhealthy food as comfort. Mindfulness meditation is an amazing tool, whether you are struggling with constantly trying to resist temptations to overeat, are prone to anxiety, or just want to live your best life.On page 16 of the book, Lani notes that mindfulness meditation can lead to stress reduction, emotion regulation, and increased well-being, and so many other benefits! To name a few..."increase self awareness, lessen harmful patterns of feeling, thought, and reactivity, enhance self-confidence, patience, and compassion, experience more calm, develop a greater capacity for dealing with adverse situations, reduce anxiety and depression, quiet intrusive thoughts, improve focus, enhance creativity and problem-solving, improve immune function, become more resilient, reduce insomnia, and better manage pain." Each chapter is filled with amazing information, tips, and "Mindful Moments" for introspection. I'm so excited to continue on this path. Whether you are just thinking about veganism or already there, there is an abundance of support for you in The Mindful Vegan to provide you with sustenance for the journey.Lani's message is about creating more self-awareness, balance, thoughtfulness, kindness, compassion, peace, health, vitality, and joy in our lives, bringing healing to all beings and our world. This book is a true gift! I have never come across a book like this and highly recommend it. Let the transformation begin!

Gentle book that gradually leads you to doing 30 mins of meditation/mindfulness work each day; has access to free audio files
I first heard of this book through the Ben Bella newsletter, but didn't order it right away -- even though the topic sounded right up my alley -- since I wasn't sure exactly what the book entailed. I finally ordered it, and am so glad I did! Even though I'm just a few days into the program, I've read the entire book, and love the approach, which focuses on applying mindfulness meditation to a vegan lifestyle.Basically, after giving an overview of mindfulness, the book lays out a thirty-day program, where you start with one minute of mindfulness meditation, and then add one minute per day -- so that by the end of the thirty days, you're meditating for thirty minutes.To aid you in your journey, the book includes a link to access free guided meditations. I play these on my phone each morning, and it makes it so easy to follow along. Lani's voice is very soothing, and her expertise in meditation shines through in the book and audio files.Last year, I took an eight-week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program that really helped, but I've fallen off of my meditation path as work has gotten busy. This book is just what I needed to get back on track since the timeline is so easy to follow.Lani also emphasizes in the opening chapters how mindfulness meditation helped her lose weight by focusing on her food addiction, and she emphasizes how it can do the same for practitioners. She also explains that it can help break any addictive behaviors by grounding us in the present moment.This is a lovely book, and the hardback binding makes it feel more like a daybook, which is useful since you will be reading small chapters each day as you work through the program.

as Lani beautifully illustrates on the guided journey which is The Mindful ...
This book is so on-pointe! I've been vegan for nearly 7 years, and during that time, have struggled with labeling vegan food choices as 'healthy' vs. 'unhealthy,' which only led to an intense fixation and restricting of food ingredients--ultimately spiraling into self-sabotage and self-judgement. Mindfulness is the missing key to letting go of this negative cycle, as Lani beautifully illustrates on the guided journey which is The Mindful Vegan. Life is about so much more than counting calories and worrying about body image. Vegan is about so much more than perseverating over which foods are 'good' or 'bad.' Focusing so intensely on 'optimal diet,' calorie counting, food restricting, etc. within a vegan lifestyle is a huge detractor that can ultimately derail our 'bigger picture' and true mission. We are here to learn to love, forgive, and grow our compassion. Beginning a mindfulness practice helps us to be more loving and forgiving of ourselves and others, and helps us be more appreciative and in tune with our bodies, so that we can be free to live life more fully. The Mindful Vegan provides the road map to get off of the diet merry-go-round and reconnect with everything that matters more, so you can ultimately navigate toward a more purposeful, productive, and rewarding life!

Fantastic read, very insightful
This is a wonderful book for both the beginner to meditation, and the veteran. Lani has a beautiful softness and compassion to her writing that makes the book a soothing treat. The audio files that accompany it are a great way to enhance your every day life by starting out with patience and equanimity. I have seen a tremendous improvement in my mindfulness at day 18 in the book, and just adore having new chapters to read every day after my grounding meditation. Fantastic read! Lots of great info and a very useful tool for vegans and non-vegans alike. :)

Top Buch, hilft mir immer noch
Zu Beginn möchte ich erwähnen, dass das Buch auch für Nicht-Veganer geeignet sofern einen ab und zu Referenzen auf das Thema nicht stören.Da ich mich seit kurzem vegan ernähre und immer wieder aus Emotionen heraus esse, dachte ich mir, dass dieses Buch hilfreich sein könnte.Ich hatte bisher Meditieren noch nie ausprobiert und somit keinerlei Ahnung davon.Der 30-Tages Plan ist toll, da man langsam in die Meditation eingeführt wird und es auch für Anfänger gut machbar ist und aufgeben zu wollen.Ist gut geeignet für Menschen mit Essstörungen als zusätzliche Hilfe zu Therapie in meinen Augen. Ich war überrascht, dass man Gefühle so gut spüren kann!Nach dem 30-Tages Plan muss man auf jeden Fall dran bleiben weil man das Gehirn nicht soo schnell umtrainieren kann meiner Meinung nach. Ich habe mit dem klassischen 8 Wochen MBSR zu Hause Programm fortgesetzt.The mindful vegan bekommt von mir 5 Sterne und noch mehr wenn es sie gäbe. Für mich persönlich der wertvollste Buchkauf oder vielleicht sogar Kauf den ich je getätigt habe.

Not enough vegan stuff
And a bit too much pushing fot that mindfulness and I'm not sure it was clearly stated in the book what exactly it is. A nice project but I'm not sure about real life implications of it actually working out. But definetely fun, just maybe not for a new just starting vegan, even recipes are abit not beginner friendly, although the potential to appeal for this exact category of people was there.
