Game of Thrones Season Two Essays Illustrated Edition

I had been reading Pearson Moore's essays on season two of Game of Thrones on a fan website when in the middle of the series they abruptly stopped appearing. I checked his personal website only to find that it has been taken down. Fearing that something untoward had happened I searched his name on Amazon and found that his season two essays were available for downloading. And then, just a few days ago, I discovered that the essays had been published in book form which I ordered immediately. (I'm not too fond of downloads since they are "trapped" on the device to which they've been saved. A hard copy is always available.)I had read the sample essay on Sandor Clegane which was posted on Amazon, and I knew that I was in store for a treat. What he had to say about the Dog's character roiled around in my brain for a few days - I won't say more but leave it to the reader to discover. At the very least, I had more evidence that Pearson Moore takes only what has been revealed in the telecasts, but is able to overlook superficialities to find the depth behind the characterizations and plot. I would go so far to say that Moore has re-instilled the feeling that George R. R. Martin had -and has - much more than an action-packed and character-packed epic in mind when he picked up the pen to write GoT. And also much more than its touted "moral complexity" which has become reduced to the idea that well-drawn characters have motivations for their heinous deeds. GoT is much more than that.The book is accompanied by illustrations some of which have been done by fan artists and some of well-known pieces of art. Though reproduced in black-and-white, they don't fail to communicate the emotional truth behind the characters. The drawings of Sansa and Arya are particularly striking on that score.Want to understand why it's worthwhile to invest the time and effort into GoT that it demands? Moore will direct you to look beyond the obvious.

Let's put it this way, the Game of Thrones novels, and Game of Thrones HBO series, would not be nearly as interesting without this author's two books (see  Game of Thrones Season One Essays Illustrated Edition ). Game of Thrones comes in threes: (1) original George Martin's GoT novels; (2) the GoT HBO video series; and (3) Pearson Moore's insights. Pearson sees so much more than I.I can't speak more highly of Pearson's books. Pearson is AMAZING. A+.As an aside, I accidentally discovered that he wrote another book,  Cartier's Ring: A Novel of Canada , a novel set in Quebec, Canada. I have a Beauregard ancestor from Quebec who emigrated to New York State by way of the Champlain River, and would like to know what it felt like to live there in wilderness days prior to 1850. I'm becoming interested in how the St. Laurence River (Seaway) has impacted the general well-being of both Canada and the USA. I haven't read it yet.

I may be too into ASOIAF & GOT. I spent the entire year between seasons 1 & 2 listening to the books repeatedly on audio in the car & while exercising. I have read chapter by chapter analysis of the books on various websites. On the night a new episode comes out, I will watch it live, then On Demand, & then, on HBOGO w/ interactive features & read four different online recaps.The thing that I like best about this book (& why I paid to read it in addition to other online "recaps") is that instead of just recapping, it gave me new things to think about when contemplating GOT S02. While reading this book, I rewatched the episodes & understood them better. Things that had previously perplexed me I now understood. Things that I thought I had understood I now understood better. I can't wait for the S03 edition.

Pearson Moore takes readers to school with his intellectual approach toward the episodes of Game of Thrones, Season 2.Those looking for a rehash of "what happened this week on the show" need not apply. This collection of essays sets aside simple retelling of basic events. Instead, the focus is on helping show watchers gain a deeper understanding of the series' characters, events, and themes.While the prospect of an "intellectual discussion" might turn some away, I can assure you that Pearson Moore has a knack for transforming hard to reach ideas into a format that is easily digestible for any reader.Please give this a chance. You will not be disappointed!

Having just read book 2 of Ice & Fire, I saw this book whilst searching for & buying book 3 & decided to give it a go. I'm glad I did as it added a lot of insights, perspectives & possibilities & challenged me to think more deeply at the hidden or unnoticed nuances of elements in the story. I have also puchased the first book & will read that before starting book 3. I hope there continues to be further books of your essays & analysis after the end of each TV season of GoT.

I'm a long-time fan of A Song of Ice and Fire, as well as the HBO show Game of thrones. Pearson Moore's essays are a fantastic companion for this most intricate of television dramas. Combining references to history, literature, philosophy, popular culture, and beyond, each chapter invites us to engage with this series on a deeper, richer level. My only hope is that there will be more to come!

Incredible, eye opening. Not quite as enjoyable as the first, but then again neither was season two. I trhink that was because after I watched season one I bought the books and read them, became infatuated in GRRM world of westeros. But Pearson does an excellant job of stirring your heart and mind , plus making you think "why these people do what they do" in Georges world.

Game of Thrones is a vast and rich TV show which spawns a whole lot of thoughts and theories. For such a mass to be presented not only coherently but also accessibly is a praiseworthy achievement indeed. The author's interpretation of one of the greatest stories of our time is informed, thoughtful and extremely enjoyable. This collection of essays was a great companion to my second viewing of GoT season 2, and I'd recommend it and its predecessor  Game of Thrones Season One Essays  to any Thrones fan who wishes to enjoy the show at the intellectual level it deserves.
