20 Years of Jethro Tull: The Definitive Collection

I bought this item in 88. My house was robbed, but I had one of the tapes in my car listening to it so I still had it. After all these years, I have now have the complete set again. Hooray. Sounds just like it did in the 80's. Imagine that!!!!! Thanks.

This does not reflect on the music, which is excellent. It's just that whoever sent this can't seem to understand that if someone orders a box set, they want the whole thing.

Tull fans, rejoice! I initially purchased this compilation in album form @ 25 years ago. I was struck with the great mix of rarities, oft-overlooked gems and classic Tull. I jumped at the chance to recently grab the CD version. This is the definitive collection for Tull neophytes and those who'd like to tip some glog with an old friend. Ian Anderson set the standard. Catch him in concert (sans codpiece)...his voice rings as clear as on these tracks.

This 1988 three CD box set was released when box sets were still scarce in record stores {remember those?}. In the 1980's, Dylan and Springsteen had created a new sensation with these multi CD packages, so it was a very big deal when Chrysalis Records brought out this "Limited Edition" "20 Years of Jethro Tull ~ The Definitive Collection."From 1968 with the release of the album: "This Was" up to the 1988 selection featuring Martin Allcock: "Part Of The Machine". These three CD's feature 65 tracks of essential, rare and unreleased material. All the normal things are indeed represented herein: "Teacher", "Aqualung", "Thick As Brick". The rare tracks include: "I'm Your Gun", "Pan Dance" and the Jethro Toe, single of 1967: "Aeroplane". The "Flawed Gems" include the: "Chateau D'Iaster Tapes" and "Mayhem, Maybe".Again I will say that this was quite an honor for Jethro Tull, to be done up in the big box set format. Today in 2008, everybody has a box set {with many artists that don't deserve one in the first place!} But this set of CD's from twenty years back still serves Jethro Tull well. It does double duty as both a "Greatest Hits" package and a historical document that contains many new nuggets of treasure. Yes, this won't be the last JT box set, as there will be many, many more, but for now it is still the best one that you are gonna find. And in it's large box and full-color booklet, it is one of better produced box sets that you will come across. This is a good one.FOUR STARS !!!

Rip off. This is supposed to be a 3 CD set and I only got one CD. In spite of everything I could do, nothing has been done to correct this. So I wound up paying quite a lot of money for a CD I did not particularly want.

I only received disk #3 from seller. Be cautious selecting a seller - it looks like others have had this same experience.

Good quality CD but, the price is on par for what I paid for the entire set of these years ago. Just wish I would have hung on to them now.

This review is purely to correct some misinformation in the review posted by Shadowmaster. He states that the running time for each disc is 60 minutes each. The correct timings are as follows.Disc one 77.06Disc two 60.28Disc three 71.07Disc four 77.43I'd consider it a worthwhile investment for all Tull fans. Hard to find nowadays but used copies are listed occasionally on Amazon and other sitesEdit. This review refers to the 25 years box set. Amazon posted it against the wrong cd set...

This album is magic . We've played the vinyl and know every crack and scratch and hiss. Went to order a CD for an anniversary surprise and I got a surprise alright ErgodeBooks Ships From USA only shipped one of the the 3 CDs and then offered a partial refund - no offer at all of shipping the rest to us!
