It’s a lens hood
It is a good quality lens hood. Wish canon would just include these with lenses but it does it’s job.

Not rocket science but definitely camera sense.
Hey, this is a lens hood. It's not like it's rocket science. It is made by Canon to fit on a lens made by Canon mounted on a camera made by Canon. Yes, it is a nicely made, good fitting camera accessory which does exactly what a photographer wants it to do. Is it pricey? Compared with those I've tried from third party manufacturers, yes. But it is also a more quality feeling piece of equipment which fits my Canon lenses perfectly and doesn't feel as though I'm going to break it when I stuff it in my pocket for a couple minutes when my gadget bag isn't immediately at hand. I have Canon lens hoods like this on all of my Canon lenses. I'm retired and not given to throwing money around willy nilly so I must think this is worth it. And the next Canon lens I purchase will also wear one of these lens hoods. Not rocket science, but most definitely camera sense.

Grossly overpriced but the fit is much better than 3rd party version
It is grossly overpriced but the way it fits and locks on the lens (RF 24-105mm f/4-7.1 is stm) is much better than 3rd party version.

Nice quality lens hood from Canon
I like to use lens hoods for two reasons:* To shade the lens a bit and reduce lens flares* To act as a quasi shield--protecting the end of the lens from minor accidents that could happen if I'm in a crowd, or around my rambunctious kidsI was surprised to see Canon doesn't ship this hood with the 18-135mm lens--and so I ordered the EW-73D. It arrived quickly, and fits my 18-135mm USM lens perfectly. It's got little dots on it to help align it to put it on. Once aligned, just give it a half-twist, and it snaps in place with a satisfying click. To remove it, there's a little spring-loaded button I have to press in order to be able to untwist it. It also fits backwards on the lens--so I can more easily store it in my camera bag. It's made of quality plastic--it doesn't feel "cheap" or "flimsy".Overall, I recommend the Canon EW-73D lens hood for your 18-135mm lens. Canon Lens Hood EW-73D (Black)Canon Lens Hood EW-73D (Black)
