Hacks: Season One

Hacks is hilarious and worthy of owning
I really love and enjoy Hacks. The blend of female comedy with modern feminism is hysterical, fun, and so so heart warming. I subscribe to HBOMax but love being able to own this in physical media. Universal did a phenomenal job on the two discs and I love the vibrancy and the sound quality.

Best Show To Come Out In A While
Jean Smart is an absolute gem and deserves all the awards for this show. Phenomenal. I only wish they had behind the scenes stuff and special features. The show is perfection

Terrific show, all praise to the writers and Jean Smart
Jean Smart is perfection in this show. Her character is complex, struggled to get where she is, knows the ropes, etc. Her character is well developed, well acted, and multidimensional. Her COO / CEO is a great character as well; a gay black man who is only slightly catty (but too passive aggressive at times). The other female lead is poorly developed, written, and acted at times; but overall is good. One disconnect (to me) is her repeated lying to Jean Smart's character: she begins as being a call it like it is to JS, rude, offensive, entitled, etc assistant (which JS accepts, appreciates, and challenges regularly). That is great. So there is no reason for the silly unnecessary lies, other than sloppy/lazy writing. The HUGE problem is both females share a young gutless manager (not believable) who has a horrible assistant who ruins every moment she is on screen. A sad trope: fat, ugly, clueless, young, nepotism hire. Her character needs to be less reliant on that trope.

The Absolutely Brilliant Jean Smart at Her Gorgeous Best!
The Absolutely Brilliant Jean Smart at Her Gorgeous Best! She’s on Fire.Great series.Crisp writing, top notch acting, beautiful cinematography.Unites generations- which seems to be much-needed right now.~~~~~~~~Please pay attention to which listing you’re purchasing from… they are different prices and different formats; yet Glamazon funnels all reviews into both listings.Find the correct version & enjoy! You’re Welcome. 😉~~~~~~~~~Hannah Einbinder Is a rising luminosity; descended from American comedy royalty. This young comedienne has such a bright future both in comedy and as a “serious” actor/actress as she chooses. I have faith that she’ll be able to keep her core strong & supple, and remain as deep, daring, & delightful as she is now. These warm & wonderful women are such a gracious gift to each other- as their work is to their audience. Very much looking forward to seeing what these two honey-toned, brilliant beauties bring forth...Super ensemble cast~ perhaps the best in 38-49 years.Even when the characters are behaving horribly, the genius of the writing, direction, & acting illuminates them into people we can care about and connect with intelligently and pleasurably.Destined to become a classic.Hope this series lasts as long as everyone on board is enjoying as much as they clearly are on this first season- let’s have this for a decade or more!10 ⭐️!Buy it! Watch it! Enjoy it! Repeat...PS1.Remember to order DVD with correct REGION for your area. 😉D’oh.2.It’s rather unfortunate the 1st/prior reviewer chose to put only one star for a manufacturing flaw- though egregious, it shouldn’t reflect on either the quality or beauty of this series.3.Yes, I was referring to the 1972-1983 award winning series MASH above. You heard it here first. Also, Hacks has a similar character lovability as did the series Friends; Hacks could eclipse both series in popularity and longevity. Though different subject matter, this series has a similar ability to hold our attention, speak to us of our zeitgeist, help us laugh at monsters (both “out there” & closer to home), entertain us, never school- but subtly speak to, and to share with us the gifts which all the best comedy series do...Enjoy!Bravo!Encore!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

It Defifinitely DOES play FINE on all USA dvd Players! And it's exceptional quality!
I was very hesitant to buy this because of the inaccurate review another person left- but I pleasantly found out that this dvd definitely works perfectly on American dvd players. It is a region 1/ NTSC dvd, which is the standard for all USA and Canadian dvd players. Plus, they are dual-layered discs, which means the picture is the absolute best quality a dvd can be! And they are pressed dvds (NOT on demand dvd-r) which is another reason this is a top quality product. Make sure you buy the dvd from Amazon themselves (and not a third party seller) to ensure that you get the correct dvd that plays here in the US.As for the series itself, TV legend Jean Smart does an excellent job on this show, which brazenly rips off the life story of Joan Rivers. Jean plays a legendary stand up comic who was the first woman to host a late night talk show, but now does stand up comedy in Vegas, sells her products on QVC, and has a spoiled brat daughter named Melissa- OOPS, I mean DJ! ...The only thing they changed is that instead of having Jean's husband commit suicide (like Joan's real life husband did), they say he left Jean for her sister and best friend (which they stole from Debbie Reynold's life story).Even though they don't give Joan Rivers any credit, this show is a delight to watch. The season also has a good story arc. I'm one of the few people left who still likes to buy dvds of TV shows I like, so I'm very happy that this show got an official dvd release for fans here in the US.

Didn’t need the politics
I usually steer clear of shows about show biz. Soooo many. Soooo boring! But this one is worthwhile. Good plot, writing, acting. Not quite a comedy, but close. The gay and lesbian plot lines feel grafted on, just to have them. We get it! Homosexuality exists! Some people treasure abortions! We already knew that. Does it have to pop up everywhere? Enough already. Rest it.

NO SUBTITLES HEARING IMPAIRED
Couldn't tell you if this show is funny or not, couldn't hear it. I unfortunately require Subtitles for the hearing impaired and this set does not provide it, which luckily is something that is provided by most overseas releases but quite often not when it's an Australian made release. Saved a few pennies, shame on you VIAVISION/UNIVERSAL
