I just spent ten days traveling with this bag and it was perfect no need to check a bag!

Nice, solid "no nonsense" bag.
I travel about 6 times a year and I consider myself to be pretty hard on luggage. I bought the Maxpedition rolling carry-on about a year ago because I own other Maxpedition products and I know the quality, durability and overall reliability that they have built into their products. They may seem a little pricey, however, everyone seems to want a "tacticool" piece of luggage but end up getting something that doesn't last. Maxpedition makes stuff that lasts. Period. I have seen some reviews that question whether this item is too large for carry-on. I have flown on American, United and Jet-Blue and have never had a problem bringing this on a flight. There are times when I've had to transfer to smaller regional jets or prop jobs and I've had to "gate check" my bag without a fee due to the size of the plane. I bought this bag in khaki-foliage color to avoid having it lost in a sea of black bags when I do need to gate check it. If you're buying a black bag, you would be wise to purchase a brightly colored strap or tag to attach so that it is easier to identify.I like the bag because it is simple and straight forward. No extra pockets that stick out or unnecessary expanding zippers. There is an outer pocket located on the top short edge when the bag is upright. This is big enough to put your chargers, battery pack, TSA-311 liquids and travel documents in while having them handy. Be advised that this pocket does not expand out, rather it expands in towards the inside of the bag. That means that if you have packed your bag as full as it can go and there is no more room, you will have a difficult time using this pocket. On the outside of this flap is MOLLE webbing so that you can attach additional (sold separately) pouches. Be advised that this would increase the dimensions of your bag and could make it ineligible to carry-on. The larger zippered flap gives you access to the main compartment of the bag, it is not an extra pouch. Inside of the bag there is a zippered divider for the top and bottom of the bag along with a removable velcro divider. There is also an included shoulder strap that is nicely padded if you like to use a shoulder strap. The wheels are quality, inline skate type wheels that roll smoothly and quietly. There have been many times I have had to rush through an airport to catch a connecting flight and this bag is able to keep up. It holds up to rough handling and has been in the rain many times without any of the contents getting wet although I don't believe that this bag is considered waterproof. The only issue that I have with the design of the bag are the handles that "hug" the front of the bag. It is necessary to remove a velcro handle to joins the two straps that cover the front/top of the bag. I would like it better if these handles were removable via a Fastek buckle instead of being permanently attached. The bottom line is that this is a rugged, functional bag that should give you years of service.

Definitely stay away from this Max...two bad ones in a row...
Coming from a person who does not review here much, I really needed to give my $.02 on this one. After using the same Kirkland carry-on for the last 15 years, I have been looking to update with something new. My $99 Kirkland from Costco has been and is still a great bag, but wires are starting to show from all the travel I do for work. So, a couple of weeks ago, I am in an airport waiting on a plane and I see this dude with one of these Maxpedition carry-on bags. Already being a Maxpedition fan, I asked about it and he said he just got it but he liked it. Got home...ordered bag and, upon initial inspection, I really liked it. Appeared to have the same quality build as the other Maxpedition stuff I own, until I did a test pack to see how much it can hold. One of the plastic internal side supports on the upper compartment snapped in two like a potato chip. Started to examine the bag and, there are internal Velcro enclosures that allow you to remove these supports for whatever reason, but it seemed difficult and I figured I just got a lemon. Immediately, I got on Amazon, posted the issue and received a replacement within two days. Open box, push a little on the plastic frame and "SNAP"...just like the first one. If the structure of this bag can't handle a first test pack, think of what the jackwad baggage handlers at the airports will do to it. Back into the box it went and they are both waiting for pick up on my porch. I say two bad ones in a row make this (very expensive) bag a one star deal. Makes me sad as I was a huge Max fan, but it looks like they are getting a little lax on design and quality control.

They make great bags that have lasted for years despite me beating ...
I'm a Maxpedition fanboy. They make great bags that have lasted for years despite me beating the crap out of them. I picked this up for my work travel. It has just enough compartments to keep my stuff organized. Usually clothes, toiletries, and shoes are kept in here with a spare compartment or two to use. At 1st, the big handle on the front had no use to me, until the 1st time I yanked it off the airport bag turnstyle. It's surprisingly handy for that. It can fit in the overhead if needed, but I usually check it so I can pack my Swiss Army knife. My carry on is the Maxpedition Multi Purpose bag where I keep my laptop and mobile office stuff. The one thing I'd like would be a more sturdy feeling rolling handle, but so far it seems strong enough. This is a heavy bag due to its construction, so keep that in mind if you usually pack a lot of heavy stuff.

Great travel bag
This bag is perfect for travel. My job has me on the road 2-3 weeks every month. I can easily fit a week worth of clothes in this bag, and it fits in the overhead bins without a problem. The compartments make it easy to pack and have a chance at getting to your destination with minimum wrinkles. The front access pocket is great at the airport for incidentals, or you can fit a small shave kit and keep it separate from the rest of your clothes. The telescoping handle is very strong and smooth to operate. I always have my breifcase strapped to it, and it handles the extra weight no problem. I have other maxpedition products and they are all great quality. If you travel a lot, spend the money and get this bag, it will outlast several others.

Nice bag with small problem
It's a nice bag and I like it. One problem is the straps inside that cinch down your cloths are on backward. Because the ends are stitched over it's impossible to flip them over without cutting off the end. I think for the money this should have been caught in quality control. I would of returned it but I needed it the next day for a trip. I'll probably just keep it and deal with the error ans it's not a huge deal, just annoying.

... two week trip during the summer and was very happy with it for the following reasons
Ordered this bag specifically for a two week trip during the summer and was very happy with it for the following reasons:(1) Not too big/not too small for a carry on --Good(2) The carrying options (handles/strap etc) are great especially for maneuvering/lifting through the various airport checkpoints(3) The built in wheels are really robust as I had to take it over some rough surfaces and there is barely a scuff /scratch on the wheels.(4) Looks great - especially the Olive colour which I purchased.(5) Lots of compartments (top access opening was very convenient for packing)The only issue(s) I would mention and they are really trival are:(1) The top handles sometimes got caught in the overhead bins when trying to take it down.(2) The pullout handles feel a tad flimsy but they held up really well.Overall a great bag and I anticipate using it as my primary travel carry for many trips to come.
