Excellent Summary of Magical Jets Season
I have been a die hard Jets fan for over 50 years, and am glad Bob Lederer made it part of his life's work to write this book about the Jets '68 season, with in depth insight into the players that made it happen. I live in LA now, but, thanks to DirectTV can still follow the Jets, though that has oftentimes been painful (as Mr. Lederer points out, there have only been 15 winning seasons in the last 50, and while the Jets have made four appearances in the AFC Championship game since 1969, they have always come up short). I thoroughly enjoyed the insights into the players and coaches. I was ten years old back then growing up in North Jersey, and remember The Heidi Bowl, and the excellent analysis of Curt Gowdy and Al DeRogatis on NBC. Back then due to blackout rules, we couldn't watch home games, but I was a regular listener via radio when the Jets were home. My Dad took me to two games that year: an early loss to Denver, where Namath threw a bunch of interceptions, and a late season win over the Dolphins, who were still a fledgling expansion team, a few years prior to Don Shula taking them to the peak of the NFL. The Dolphins game was so cold with the wind whipping through Shea, that my Dad zipped me up in a sleeping bag in the seats and made sure I had hot chocolate while he enjoyed his adult libation to keep him warm. In LA, I have two seats from Shea Stadium in my backyard, as power washing couldn't eliminate 50+ years of bird droppings in the back of the seats (and my wife wants those no where in the house!). This book inspired me to watch the broadcast of the game that I have on DVD (with all the cigarette and pipe tobacco commercials. TWA and Schlitz were among the main TV sponsors of the game). Bubba Smith purportedly said that the game was fixed, and there were even unsubstantiated rumors that Colts owner Carroll Rosenbloom, had bet heavily on the Jets. After reading this book and rewatching the broadcast, I don't believe any of those ideas. The Jets played their 'A' game and won convincingly. I highly recommend this book for any Jets fan, or anyone with an interest in the old American Football League. For me, this brought back some great memories.

Great to hear the rest of the story
Loved reading about the “ behind the scenes” issues and getting to know the rest of the key players who made this team a Super Bowl champion. Namath was great but no single player can do it alone.

How A Team, Football & The World Changed During The NY Jets Football Season of 1968-1969.
As a football & more specifically NY Jets fan plus not owning a copy of this book, it was a no-brainer for me to purchase this sports & history presentation by Bob Lederer. Having graduated from high school in 1968, I had the good fortune to be able to view/listen - via TV &/or radio - three of my favorite NY teams win in a very BIG way. The NY Jets, the NY Mets & the NY Knicks went all the way to have championship seasons in 1968-1969 with only the NY Rangers falling short. Mr. Lederer's book focuses on the NY Jets as a football team & celebrates how it/they all came together making for a great sports & history lesson to read & enjoy.

Well written and Very Enjoyable
I picked this book u[ for a little light reading while traveling. What a wonderful read! The format of discussing the history of each player on the team, the coaches really provided insightful information on what the team thought of their coaches, teammates and the BIG GAME. I highly recommend this book, not to just Jets fans, but anyone who wants to see what football was really like in the mid-late 1960s when the AFL was just coming into its own.

The best book for any sports fan!
Beyond Broadway Joe is a fascinating in-depth look at Super Bowl III and the winning Jets team. Bob Lederer provides a very well-written, unique perspective of all the players, coaches, and owners. I loved reading the stories about each player and can’t give enough kudos to Mr. Lederer for seeking out and interviewing so many from the team as well as their family members in order to gain all the key insights presented. Beyond Broadway Joe is a great book to commemorate this 50th year anniversary and to honor the entire team!

Super Jets...
Great book, perfect read for any football fan. The author did a fantastic job in not only writing this book, but also in obtaining the research materials, including talking to many former players, coaches, and their families, that was necessary for proper completion of this book. The material in this book was very interesting and I learned a lot of fun facts about Superbowl III that I did not know previously. Book is hard to put down, highly recommended! :)
