New Balance Women's 840 V5 Running Shoes

The 840 is the perfect shoe for me. I have a wide foot, a small bunion and I have had surgery for neuromas. A tight shoe will cause me discomfort and aggravate my feet. The 840 has a wide toe box, I have to buy an extra wide. I wore my first pair of 840s for almost 2 years. I exercised or walked 5-6 days per week and never had any problems. A couple months ago I bought the 880 in an extra wide, thought they were wide enough, within ~6 weeks my feet were hurting, my plantar fasciitis flared up, even had to go to the doctor. Besides following the doctors orders I ordered a new pair of 840s. My feet are back to normal. The 880 is a nice shoe other than a narrower toe box the shoe is comfortable and supportive. I will wear them on days I don’t have to do a lot of walking. If you need a wide toe box go with the 840.

This is my fourth pair of 840 running shoes. It is only available on Amazon. NB is not manufacturing it anymore. They seem to have moved to a less expensive version, made of materials that wear out quickly, This version has a roomy toe-box, a reinforced strip around the entire front of the shoe, and a strong rubber sole. Not so for the current version sold by NB. The toe-box is narrower, there is no reinforcement surrounding the front, and the sole is made of foam. The newer version is made of materials that do not last as long as this one.

Hard to find this version, but the most comfortable for me.

Great fit. Great shoe…I find it feels hot an heavy in the summer so I switch to my ON sneakers for the warm weather.

I have low volume, flexible feet with a low arch. Also have neuroma and a bunion and bunionette.These are the only shoes I have been able to wear without pain. They provide firm, yet flexible support with a nice round toe box so I can spread my toes. Excellent heel support. I tried the v4 last year and they were too wide and sloppy for me. I did size a half size down for the v5 and they fit perfectly. Usually in an athletic shoe I have to size up a half size but not with these. They’re great, please do not change them. I’m ordering the other color soon. Thank you, New Balance!Additional info, it is a fuller shoe but I think it can still work for those with lower volume feet. I have forefoot issues and may add a metatarsal pad to help off load my forefeet. People with foot issues have such a hard time…. I hope this helps someone else.

My favorite athletic shoe for the last five or six years. I wear them all the time and wear them out quickly so I was very pleased to see that I could get the 840 new balance on Amazon! They fit me perfectly and they are so comfortable!

I like the 940 better don't know why NB discontinued. These look good and fit about the same. Less arch support and not as much cushion at the ball of the foot which is where I have issues. Will keep them just not sure if I'll buy again or try a new brand next time. Been a NB fan for years but they just don't last like they used to, like everything else higher price lower quality.

Great sneaker. I wish New Balance had not revised the sneaker with more padding. It's not useful!
