Helps with math good
I used this to help my elementary school kid with Math because they were struggling. This helped so much because now my kid has learned a lot and this made it fun so they would want to learn. I suggest this if you have a kid that's struggling with math. This should most definitely have it to were they would want to learn. It's worth the money.

Review from 2nd grade mom
In my daughter's second grade class she is timed on addition and subtraction. The idea is to get kids to know the answer to 9+8 (for example) without thinking about it. Her teacher said that while she knew 9+8 is 17, she needed to get it out quicker. The teacher recommended flash cards to increase speed. While flash cards are fine, they aren't all that exciting for kids. This is like electronic flashcards, and my child finds it enjoyable. There is a flashcard mode and a calculator mode. There are also different levels. So level 1 has simple, Kindergarten or 1st grade problems, and level 8 has problems I had to think about for second. I have my child use it 10 minutes each night and I don't hear any complaints. She brought it in to show her teacher and she was impressed - said it would make a great center activity in the classroom. I plan on buying the teacher one for class use. I can't comment on the durability because I haven't had it very long. This is a great product either for the child that needs some assistance improving their math skills, or for the child who excels and needs a challenge.

Easy to use and educational
I bought this for my five year old nephew who is already attempting to do multiplication. He loves it and figured out how to use it right when I put the batteries in. It isn't "fun" in the conventional way but he loves learning so it was fun to him. He does keep putting it on level 8 which is way too difficult for him (135+___=196) but the lower levels keep him entertained and it will be something he can use for a while and grow into it. Highly suggest for someone who enjoys learning. It doesn't make learning fun but if they enjoy math anyway, it would be great for them.

Helps learn multiplication tables tremendously!
When I was a child, I had a similar toy called a "Mr. Professor," made by Texas Instruments. I really liked it, but they are no longer manufactured. I can't remember all the features it had but I am fairly sure that this Math Whiz by Educational Insights is even better. My third-grader has used this toy to practice for multiplication table speed drills and also for division. It is awesome. She loves trying to best her previous time! It has several levels, such that it is possible to restrict the questions to come from only the 3's multiplication table or the 8's, etc. Or, one can practice all the multiplication tables 0-12 mixed up. (There are multiple levels.) Also it can be used as a calculator, or addition/subtraction/division speed drills. My child loves it and it has really been a learning aid (and time saver for me).

Makes Drilling Fun
My 8-year-old daughter has a logical mind but was bad at memorizing basic math facts, and, at least at her school, teachers don't want to do the kind of old-fashioned "drilling" that allowed me to learn this stuff when I was a kid. So we had to do the drilling at home -- but my daughter hated the flash cards, and got stressed out by them. This little gadget has been a godsend. Both she and her 6-year-old brother love it and play with it like a favorite toy. It has a great many levels, so you can start your child at just the right point. They can work on it again and again on their own -- a very different feeling from getting a flash card question wrong in front of Mom. It's always encouraging and upbeat -- and they learn their math! I love it!

Only worked 1 day
The Math Whiz was nice when it worked. We purchased the Math Whiz brand new and it worked for 1 day. My son only used it for 15 minutes or so because it was apart of his Christmas gifts so he had other toys he was also excited about playing with. The 15 minutes he used it he liked it and it appeared to be a great educational game. However, when he went to use it again a few days later the Math Whiz would not work. We changed the batteries and nothing would get the game to work. So we're not sure if we just got a bad one or if this is typical of this products durability. The shipping time on the product was very fast.

Good math practice, screen hard to see
My daughter loves doing math challenges and enjoys this game. Note that screen is a bit hard to see (only visible in bright light at a specific angle). The screen visibility is the only thing I would change/improve if I could.

Teaching math and having fun
This product was highly recommended by a school teacher in the UK as a great teaching tool. It was well received as a gift by the children and their parents. An excellent math teaching tool that the children love. It is portable, user friendly and has something for those on many different levels, so much so that one father, an engineer, loves to play the game by himself when travelling and is equally enjoyable to his 7 year old son, as well as a game that they can play together. Math Whiz is a tool that creates a friendly math experience which can be used for many years as the upgrading levels will remain a challenge.
