Well worth the money!
This pergola kit is well worth the money and easy to put together. It is definitely a project that you need some time and patience because there are very detailed instructions and you need to read and follow them to the letter. The kit came in three very heavy boxes so be prepared to have help moving from the drop off point to your installation area. The pieces are not heavy individually but as you put them together they get heavier and you need at least one extra set of hands. My husband and I had a total of 24 hours in labor putting it together. We did it after work in the evenings and did not have any problems. The holes were all drilled exactly in alignment and we only had one small board on top that had a little natural warp but we hid it by placement. No other issues. The bolts are all shiny black and very nice looking. Compliments the light wood nicely. We had a contractor give us an estimate for the same size pergola and it was 15k. This kit was 2500.00 for the 10x20. No regrets and we have gotten so many compliments!! There is one comment in the reviews that I want to add to. Someone stated that the posts are not solid 6x6 posts. This is true, however, they are very sturdy and we have no concerns whatsoever. The week we put our pergola together was the week of the terrible straight wind storm in Tulsa Ok. Limbs were down all around us but this pergola never budged. If you are kit instruction savvy at all and enjoy completing your own projects this kit is for you!

This is a beautiful product.
My Pergola kit came in 4 boxes with all the parts and hardware, I laid all the cedar parts on the ground. I know they say it has a coating of weather proof on the cedar but we have a lot of wood bees in our area so I put a coating of simi-transparent stain to protect the wood from the bees. The directions were easy to follow so I started first thing in morning by myself and stopped that evening. The next morning my wife helped hold the pillars up so I could plum and level everything but over all it was a good job with a good product.

Beautiful Pergola at an unbeatable price.
The wife wanted some extra shade on the back deck so I decided to purchase this pergola. It arrived as scheduled in two very heavy long boxes. Moving the boxes is definitely a two-man job, but Amazon only sent the driver. Lucky I was able to help him move the boxes or I'm not sure he could have moved them into my driveway by himself. My pergola arrived undamaged and came with all the required hardware. The wood is real cedar with that nice cedar smell and comes pre-stained. I decided to add a coat of waterproofing so I spent the first day just laying out and painting all the pieces. I used Seal-Once Nano-Poly Premium Wood Sealer which I also ordered from Amazon. It goes on easy, dries fast and cleans up with soap and water. The next day I started assembly of the separate sections. This can be done by one person, but is far easier with two. I would recommend that you have at least an intermediate skill level to assemble this on your own. The instructions are clear but you need to make sure you are assembling the right pieces in the correct orientation. After the 4 sides are assembled you will need at least 3 people to stand up the sides and bolt them together. Once that is done then 2 people are enough to finish the job. The entire assembly part (not including painting) took me 2 days. More people could probably do it in one. I mounted my pergola to a wooden deck. Securing the legs with the supplied mounts requires some careful measurements, but they work fine. I wanted a semi-transparent tarp on top and ordered a Windscreen4less 10x14 Sun Shade Sail on Amazon which fit nicely. I used eyebolts and zip ties to secure it. The wife also wanted a mosquito net so I measured carefully and ordered the Apex Garden 10X12 gazebo net on Amazon which fit perfectly. I secured it with white plastic-coated curtain wire which you can also purchase on Amazon. I am very happy with this pergola and for the price you will not beat the quality. You couldn't even get just the wood alone from HD for this price let alone the cutting and hardware. I know people who have had pergolas custom built for over $5K! This pergola is an excellent value!

Challenging assembly but worth it
Assembly Time: Appox. 12 hours Assembler Skill Level: Intermediate The Pergola arrived in two very long boxes on pallets. I had to help the shipper unload the boxes and we dropped them curbside as the boxes were very heavy. I then unboxed the parts, took inventory, checked for damage and moved them to my work area. All parts were received and in good shape. A few pieces had minor blemishes and these were mostly able to be hidden. Before assembling I applied an additional coating of stain and sorted all of the pieces by part number. On the first day two of us started the assembly with a 3rd person that was our "parts guy", getting the parts we needed as we worked through the directions. We reached our stopping point after a few hours. It became evident that the hardware was not the best quality (not the worst either). We ended up stripping some of the bolts. Luckily the manufacturer provides amble extra hardware to get us through the first part of assembly. The bolts are barely long enough to join the pieces of wood so you need to ensure everything lines up. TIP: Don't try to force anything. If everything is lined up the bolt will thread rather easily. On the second day 4 people did the bulk of the assembly. Again the biggest challenge was getting everything lined up and square so the bolts would thread. There is NO extra length to the bolts so you must ensure everything is lined up and square (I can't stress this enough). Since we were not working on a completely level surface this proved difficult. We ended up purchasing threaded rods to help get things lined up so we could get some of the bolts to thread. We ended up stripping some more bolts and needed to use a tap and die to re-thread them as we ran out of spares. While we wished the bolts would be longer it became evident that this is probably done on purpose by the manufacture to ensure everything is square and assembled properly. Longer bolts could result in a less sturdy structure with noticeably misaligned parts in the end. So while you may be frustrated getting everything bolted, keep in mind that this is for your own good. I should note that no one helping with assembly were professional carpenters. I suspect a professional, with more experience and all of the proper tools to ensure everything is level and square would have an easier time with assembly. It took us most of the second day to complete the assembly. We mostly worked in shifts of two people as we were working in record heat and frequent breaks were needed. While it was challenging, the end result was a very sturdy and very attractive looking pergola. After assembly I applied caulk to some of the seams that I felt would be susceptible to sitting or freezing water. If I had to do it again I would consider hiring a professional carpenter but only one I trusted. I would not trust just anyone to assemble it correctly and not cut corners, especially at the rates Amazon is charging. It's been about a year (through a mild winter) and the pergola still looks like new. I suspect with proper care and maintenance it will last for many years. My 4 star rating is mostly due to the challenging and extensive assembly. If the manufacture could reduce the number of parts, provided slightly sturdier hardware and make assembly easier I would give it 5 stars plus.

12x14 Pergola - Best pergola kit ever.
By far, the best premade kit I have ever assembled. I have designed and built many different wooden projects, including a gazebo and pergola. I am very impressed with this pergola kit. I had help putting this together by 2 engineers and a long time wood worker. They all had the same response. Outstanding! It’s complete, excellent instructions, well designed and no miss drilled parts or tugging and pulling to mate the pieces together. I removed everything from boxes, inventoried and pre stained then organized the components. I then pre assembled the sections per instructions. When help arrived we started putting it together which went smoothly. If I have the need for another yard product, it will be from this company.

Gorgeous, constant compliments, easy part replacement
This was a bear for 3 women to put together. It took a full day and evening, plus a fairly easy couple of hours the next morning, but it was oh so worth it (if you have more money than time, you can pay like $800 for the 20x12 to have someone put it together for you). A couple of parts came damaged from the delivery people. We called and they sent us a package within a week for the replacement wood. In these pics, we had used the damaged part because we had an event. We made sure the damaged part was one of the last used in succession to make it easy to replace. Definitely download the "BILT" app, as it really helped us figure out what we were doing. We also added a shade and edison string lights we purchased on Amazon to supplement because we are in a super hot area and wanted the extra protection. I would buy this item again. It's beautiful and sturdy, and gets alllll the compliments. (We got the 20x12). One thing I will say was it was really challenging to make the holes in cement to bolt it down, which we need because we get insanely high winds a couple of times a year. We broke two drill bits. So, I had to talk my handyman dad into coming from a couple of hours away with a special tool for drilling through cement.

Beautiful addition to our yard!
My fairly handy husband put this together all by himself over about 2 days. He said it was pretty straightforward except the top most slats do not come with any guides or pilot holes for installation and that was very poky. We had 2 boards that were damaged and also appeared not to be appropriate for our kit. We were able to obtain new boards within a few days by reporting the appropriate part numbers to the company. My husband attempted to pretreat the boards with waterproofing before installation but that didn't work well for various reasons so now it still needs waterproofing. We have a pretty small city yard and the 10x10 size is great for our space. Another comment about the delivery process. It comes in 2 long large heavy boxes. Choosing a delivery time for your order is apparently meaningless. The pergola did arrive on the date I expected, however I chose an afternoon delivery time because I had an online meeting all morning. Thankfully I was at home. They called at about 8am to say they were on the way. I said don't come until the afternoon as requested. I was told all I could do was reschedule to another day and I could not expect them to deliver during the time I had specified with my order. They had no response when I asked why buyers could choose a delivery time window if this was meaningless?? The delivery guys themselves were great. Just not the delivery process. Overall, we are really happy with our new pergola that I had wanted forever. We can't wait to create our garden space with this as a centerpiece!

wth?!! NOT worth "One Star" - took entire leisure away from such item
Paid for contractor service (via Amazon) to assemble - only to come home, to find pergola [VERY] crooked [photos] - just too late to do crap because I paid a lot (EXTRA) for cement to stabilize [because I reside in desert where wind speeds are often 25-60 mph]. Pergola was already assembled/in the ground, with poured concrete; however, the contractor (both deaf and only communicating me with pointing and using their cell phone's text/note feature to communicate). Also, I discovered few broken pieces (already assembled) & many beams not level/not secured. AND not even adjoining adjacent beams/posts. Pergola is beautiful - serves its purpose (car shade). Material is marketed as 'Chinese Cedar'. I ain't an expert, but this material fractures easily. Just hope it "holds up" - esp with high winds & frequent temps 90-118° AND that its set in forever, in concrete. Reckon I got what I deserve/signed-up for (??) buying something so large, so time-intensive, so complex, not having ability to physically inspect item, buying off the internet, and ETC, ETC.. I even received a berating email that the contractor had to assemble this item in excessive heat. 1st off: I didn't make anyone agree to perform anything, under any conditions, any date/time. And salt to wound: I even tipped these 2 contractors $80 -AND- bought each of them a full lunch (Panera Bread), in addition to water/drinks. They even knocked on my door, asking me if I had anything for them to drink. THEN.... (gets worse): the lengthy email from the contractor assembling this item went on & on how they had to make 2 trips to Home Depot for tools to assemble the item. The contractor went on & on about how he "went out of his way" to obtain items, to assemble this item. So, I'm confused how I (the consumer) am responsible for ensuring weather conditions are to their liking & that I am to have the necessary tools (specifically asked AND that I had to obtain/provide: wheel barrel, shovel, and cement). Paying someone to assemble this so I didn't have to spend any time doing this project, whatsoever & not deal with the aggravation to assemble this, YET, here I am.. doing exact opposite and then some, trying to resolve *this* ISSUE) - which BTW.. I see some reviewers on here were able to assemble this item in ~5 hrs. I'm impressed because 2 assembly guys (contractors arranged/paid via Amazon) spent from 8AM-7:30PM to do this project and ... I don't even trust these people and don't want them anywhere near my property - despite their having emailed me, called me (many times). I rather just burn this pergola during our next winter rather than deal with these people (contractors who "assembled" this item), than have to endure more stress and frustration with such incompetent, disrespectful, people. (and yes, I have email communication as proof the manner which I was treated and that I was the one responsible for their mishaps & being ill-prepared)
