Does the pocket have a button or zipper to secure it shut?

No but the pocket is on the inside and would say its pretty much impossible for anything to fallout even when doing a handstand

Large should be good as long as you don't have thick thighs or a larger bum as well then maybe XL if you want a bit more room.
