Great read. Very helpful. Give it a shot. I dare ya.
What I found most helpful in the book was the concept of: Does it bring you Freedom? Does it bring you Love? Does it make you feel alive? Does it bring you peace? I remember it as FLAP.I appreciate it because it helps me stay in the present tense, curious about the people and world in front of me.I’m a team player that for the last 10 years has been working by myself. It’s hard. I’m in residential real estate. I don't love what I do but I do it for the right reasons. I grew up with a very absent father. I didn't want my kids to have that same experience. This profession allows me to make my own schedule. It allowed me to never miss a dance recital, basketball game or talent show.Real estate coaching is very goal oriented. I struggled with that. A lot of the coaching I had focused on your “Big Why.” Your big why was a lighthouse, a beacon you focused on and sailed towards.I could never come up with a big "why." It never motivated me. I was just trying to get through the week. Pay the bills. Keep all the balls in the air. It was all very future oriented.I struggle with “long term planning”. Long term to me is next week. I wrote goals. They turned out to be more like a list of things to get done. What most others in my world would consider short term goals. I felt like a rudderless sail boat with no lighthouse in sight most of the time. I'd reach my little “goals” and feel good for about 10 seconds at best. These feelings were compounded when I lost my wife to breast cancer leaving me with three teenage daughters to raise. Working in a 100% commissioned based job was hard with a capital H. Putting on a smile and showing people homes took everything I had for a long time but the bills needed to be paid.I am only sharing all this because Tripp's approach, the approach he shares in the book, would have been very helpful as I white- knuckled my way through much of my career…. and life.Things are better now. I have launched all those teenage girls into college and they are great humans with big hearts that are thriving.I am now using FLAP to launch my second act. I have some fear and anxiety about that. I am finding the book VERY helpful right now because as I chart where to go from here I can let go of all the goal oriented, future thinking training I struggled with for so many years. I have a different way of thinking and seeing things. I am enjoying staying present and curious and seeing what opportunities show up.

Truly more expansive than self help...
I started listening to Tripp’s podcast many moons ago and I have to say it played a pivotal role in advancing my life forward at the time. Now all of these years later I can say that this book will no doubt do the same, as I apply his messages and action steps. The book is packed with useful insights and blended with humour. It is obvious the man cares about his impact and lives the very ideals he rolls out in text. A few of the concepts I had heard before, but they are repackaged in a more devour-able manner. Most of the thoughts and ideas were new to me and provided a fresh lens with which to examine my own life and personal story.I don’t want to give away any secrets as I feel that the book contains enough content to speak to the different journeys people are currently on.On a side note (this idea is discussed within the book, but it’s a concept contained within many scripts and is often missed entirely) while reading the book, you must...MUST take action. Application is key. I can’t tell you how many years I’ve spent thinking “Wow! That’s an amazing idea! So is that! OH my God is that a powerful way of doing things!” And then returned to the couch for my 29th bag of chips. Knowledge is only power if you make it apart of who you are.Cheers Tripp. Thanks for advancing my life forward once again.
