Aircraft Design of WWII: A Sketchbook

Superb Publication
Outstanding book... excellent illustrations. Purchase this book for good friends' 10 year old son who absolutely loved it!! His dad loved it so much he took it from his 10 y.o. to bring into work and show it off. I saw it for the first time and was excessively impressed. The 10 y.o. loves to draw and he now started to hand draw some the illustrations from the book.

Importante para referencia
The media could not be loaded. Referencias a detalle del diseño en general de aviones de la WWII, no habla en detalle sobre un avión en específico, ayuda a despejar algunos detalles que quizas falten en el modelado.

Excellent illustrations, but borderline useless as a reference
This book is a facsimile reprint of the "Aircraft Design Sketch Book" compiled and published by Lockheed in 1940, consisting almost entirely of diagrams sourced from contemporary issues of "Flight," "Aeroplane," "Aviation," and "L'Aeronautique." The first half consists mainly of thematic sections devoted to a particular aspect of aircraft design (wings, fuselage, landing gear, power plants, armament, cabin interiors, etc.) with a second half devoted to cutaways of complete aircraft.Although there's undoubtedly an enormous amount of fascinating material here, and if you enjoy studying vintage technical illustrations you'll find a lot to love, the scarcity of supporting text in the first half of the book often makes it impossible for the reader to know exactly what they're looking at. As much as I can appreciate the immense skill of the draftsmen of the late 30s, it's rather frustrating to see illustrations shorn of their accompanying keys, and sometimes even without a title. I imagine this wasn't an issue for the book's original audience, but 82 years later, a little bit of helpful text dropped in between sections would have greatly enhanced its usefulness as a reference. As it is, it's fun to browse through, but ultimately just a curiosity.

Great artwork
Solid artwork from the aircraft concept agencies. Drawing organization is a little jumbled or I would have given 5 stars.
