Warm and cosy
On of the first Ron Howard films, and as with Splash, Coccoon exhibits a 'niceness' that permeates a lot of the director's earlier works(and indeed some latter). Today (2012) it might not hold up quite so well with a younger audience but I have fond memories of this blockbuster of sorts back when it was released. The effects at the time were some of the best, but alas the cgi playing field has changed dramatically in those 20+ years. As a film and a story in its own right it still works however. All the actors are top notch. Guttenburg is sufficiently 'Guttenburgy' and no doubt put a few bums on seats but it is the older cast that shine and are the heart of this film. Jessica Tandy, Don Ameche and Wilford Brimble all excel in very understated but touching roles. But it is Jack Gilford as Bernie who steals the show as the unexpected soul of the piece. His humanity and humility and honesty leads to a more touching ending than simply a boat-load of septogenarians riding off into the sunset to live forever. And Brian Dennehy is always worth the price tag!Modest, moving and emotional. With aliens.

Cocoon has aged like a fine wine
Eureka keeping pulling out the stops to bring us quality editions in Blu-Ray releases and Cocoon is a prime example of that. When I started watching it after years away from the film I was worried it wouldn't have the same effect like it did the first time round but im happy to report it was even better. Maybe the older you get the more you appreciate what it means to be older and feel young again. The booklet included is a great addition with lots of interesting facts and a handful of extra's to keep the faithful more than satisfied. Its a must buy for any fan, we just need Cocoon The Return now.

Lovely unusual story.
This is one of my 'very good value for money' dvds. It is not a very old production. 1980s in fact. Set in a retirement village with older actors - lead by Don Ameche - it really is a lovely film. Quite charming in fact. There are aliens lead by Brian Dennehy who is an absolute sweetie and there are the cocoons which they collect from the sea and place in the swimming pool to keep them safe. It is an unusual very kind story which I found totally entertaining.

Oldie but goldie
Although it is sentimental and a portrayal of old age as we would all like to think of it, this is still a feel good film - a bit like it's a wonderful life. The film is now quarter of a century old but stands the test of time - prepare to shed a few tears even if you know what is coming. If you don't well up when Bernie takes Rose to the pool you aren't human.............. An evocative score and great performances make this a film to see again.

Such a wonderful 80s classic
A true 80s classic, "Cocoon" is a wondrous film to entertain and enthrall to this very day! Fantastic story (from novelist David Sapertein and screenwriter Tom Benedek), amazing cast (both veteran and young), brilliant director (Ron Howard), fine producers (the Zanucks and David Brown) and masterful composer (James Horner). A film and bu-ray to own, share and enjoy...forever!

Ron Howard makes a film about old people.
This film somehow is original in it's cast since it is mostly about old people however Ron Howard goes very sentimental with this film which does not live up to it.
