A Choreographer's Handbook

I bought this for my choreography class, but it's definitely a textbook I'm planning on keeping and book I recommend to anyone who likes to choreograph.

It is always interesting visiting another choreographers thought processesThe book flows like a piece of choreography with a sense that Burrows is almost choreographing the writing. Unfortunately this has the same drawbacks that a lovely, personal piece of choreography has - it leaves the reader to just experience the information rather than gain in depth understandingI would have liked more descriptions of actual choreographic exercises, experiencesI would have like less general questions and responses that seem to allow for any solution and MORE strong personal opinionsI finish treading and must ask who is this book written for and who will actually read itI did read it and glad I did but beyond our private dancers language who will be interestedjmsPS ~ I do not agree that making a piece is only about the developing the material. That is barely step one. Then there is the massive editing and the shaping of the bare hones content that you choose to keep.

I love this quirky little book. For professional modern dancers and graduate level students, this book offers questions and inspiration. I highly recommend adding it to the reading list for a graduate level choreography class.

I did not know what to expect when I ordered this little gem on-line. I am presently working on a large piece of dance theater and I really found this book to be helpful and encouraging. It's unusual style added to the push to think more creatively. It gave me new found bravery!

I recommend this book to anyone, I mean anyone who choreographs. It can speak to the beginning as well as the accomplished choreographer. It's easy and fun to read.

I was disappointed. As a teacher and choreographer, I was expecting this book to be more like a TOOL or guideline, rather than a scatter-brained collection of the authors opinion on choreographing.

Great book to energise your thoughts. It has sparked some new interests and insights to creating new Choreographic works. I highly recommend if your starting out as a choreographer and also if your just looking for new perspectives.

Bought for my partner (who dances) and she finds it really inspiring. I sneaked a look too and then found it hard to put down. A great book - simply written but having the sense of encapsulating a lifetime's experience.

I brought this book for my uni dance degree and found it very useful it has everything in it and is very descriptive.

It was a good read but I was expecting a little more in terms of how to be creative and what the creative process of choreography involves.

Full of interesting information.
