ZINUS 12 Inch Green Tea Cooling Gel Memory Foam Mattress / Cooling Gel Foam / Pressure Relieving / CertiPUR-US Certified / Bed-in-a-Box, King

The mattress ended up being about what we had expected. More firm than a traditional spring mattress, but softer than others we have either slept on or tested out in a store. We, like most, were tempted in spending much more money from either a store or a bigger name brand online, but overall are very satisfied with our purchase. We also purchased the normal Zinus frame, which went together easily and has been doing a good job for us so far. Packaging. It was easier than expected and the box wasn't as heavy as I thought it would be. It was easy enough to open, get the mattress out (that was nicely packed) and into our bedroom for opening. At some point during the process, we must have torn a small hole in the plastic bag and we could hear air starting to get in. Thankfully, we were able to get the mattress on the frame and the plastic off before too much expansion happened. Set up/Expansion. We slept on the mattress the first night we set it up after about 6-7 hours of expansion. We felt like it was around 11", so we wanted to try it out. After sleeping on it over this past week, it has grown to 12" all the way around. We slid some cardboard (from the shipping box) under the mattress and on the frame to prevent the foam from leaking through the slots. It's worked great so far! Smell. I hesitate to actually say this, but my wife swore for the first couple of days it smelled like Peanut M&M's. She has a weird sense of smell, but it did have a smell, although not bad or overpowering at all. After a week we don't notice anything at all. Firmness. We decided with this mattress in particular because it was supposed to be softer than others. We're glad we got this one, because it is still more firm than we are used to. After a few adjustments to how we sleep, we both find the bed very comfortable and it is great. Movement/Support. Although we haven't tried the wine glass test shown on older commercials, we have tested seeing if we can tell if the other is getting in or out of bed. For the most part, we can't tell. Like almost all foam mattresses, if you are too close to the sides, you will find there isn't a lot of support. I sleep pretty close to the sides and haven't had any issues. Overall impression. I am VERY satisfied with our purchase. Not only did we save HUNDREDS (if not thousands) of dollars, it was delivered quickly and easily. We haven't had to deal with customer support, but hopefully between Amazon and Zinus we could resolve any issues if they were to come up.

If you're looking at this, just buy it. Do it. A king size memory foam mattress for $360.00?? It's an absolute steal at that price and the quality is excellent. I, like most people, was extremely sceptical about buying a mattress online, sight unseen, but I'm so happy I did. My girlfriend and I have been sharing a full size bed for over two years and this was a purchase that was WAY overdue. The only thing that stopped us was the hefty price tag from the regular stores. I'm a slim guy @ 6'2" and she's a short little lady at 5'3" but the full bed was just too small for the both of us to sleep comfortably. The first night we slept on this bed I woke up twice because I couldn't feel her next to me and instinctively was worried that she couldn't sleep and was on the couch. Finally I can sprawl out all I want and there's still plenty of room! I gave the bed almost 72 hours to "inflate", or whatever you want to call it. After the 72 hours or was at its 12" height and all the corners were even and the bed was just great. It is a little more firm than our old bed but I suspect we just need to break it in over time by sleeping on it more. But it's still VERY comfortable and I'd buy it again in a heartbeat if something ever happened to this one. Besides, there's something to be said for a memory foam mattress after sleeping on springs your entire life. I can't say enough good things about this mattress. If you're on the fence or worried about the price tag, I'd say, just buy it. You won't regret it! Edit: I honestly can't believe all of the negative reviews on this mattress. For those worried about the smell, It did have a small to it when it came out of the bag, but after letting it sit for 72 hours to decompress the smell was gone. The bed is still on the firmer side but still so comfortable. The firmness is SUPPORTIVE. My ONLY complaint is that the bed is very warm, I counteract this by using a thinner blanket and sleeping with the windows open (per usual). Still 5 stars, and I'd still buy it again.

As a member of Vine I have reviewed a lot of mattresses and of all of the mattresses I have received for review, the Zinus mattresses are the ones that have seemed to impress us the most and stay with us the longest. My son still has the very first one we reviewed from them for his bedroom and refuses to part with it. So when it came time to buy a mattress for our master suite there was no question with what brand we would be buying. I already knew I liked the brand and could count on the quality. While I had not personally had this particular cooling mattress before I am a very hot sleeper so it was the one I decided to go with and their 12 inch mattress had served us well in the past. If you've never ordered a memory foam mattress online don't be surprised when it comes in a very heavy but smaller than might be expected box. When you open it, it looks like what I call the beef jerky of mattresses in there. Don't let the looks deceive you. The mattress will expand quickly. You want to get it into position before openining the seal. Once you do it's going to start to "inflate" at a rapid pace. We put it on the box spring (also made by Zinus) and as we had anticipated it began to expand. Within an hour I could lay on it comfortably (if it was a bit firm). By nighttime it achieves more softness and takes about 48 hours to a week to achieve full softness but you can indeed sleep on it the first night. I did not notice any odor with this mattress, and trust me I'm prone to odor induced migraines so I'd notice if there was a problem with chemical smell. I had a mattress once that I had to leave in the lanai for a week to air out. This one wasn't a problem at all. It may have a very mild odor that I didn't notice because I'm stuffy but if there is any it's really not at all noticeable enough to comment on. As far as comfort, I love this. I suffer from chronic pain. I need a mattress that bounces back to form quick so I can roll over to another spot and not sink back into the spot I was in. This does that. I would call it a medium firm. Soft enough to cushion but firm enough to give support. In my book it was money well spent. I was lucky enough to have the luxury of testing a few different brands before making a purchase but I have to say that even if this cost more than it did I still would have chosen this one. Well worth the price when mattress stores are charging five times as much if not more for comparable mattresses. If I run into problems I'll update my review as always but so far so good. Edit 1: So I've been having severe hot flashes at night for a while now. Before we got this mattress I'd wake up at least four or five times a night having a major night swear and unbearably hot. Since getting this mattress that hasn't happened to me once, so (at least for me) I can attest to the fact that the cooling effect does indeed work. I'm by no means cold but I no longer wake up feeling as though someone has suspended my body over a lava pit. What has happened however is that I now wake up with a sweaty head and am now in search of the perfect cooling pillow to go with this mattress.

8/31/17 | My initial impression of this mattress: 3 stars. I will update after sleeping on a while. I purchased the Zinus 12" Gel Infused mattress in size King. I got this mattress over a week ago, and immediately took it out and followed the directions for allowing it to expand. I let it sit in my guest room on the floor untouched for several days before I was ready to move it into place. It did grow to 12" tall, however some of the sides and corners are lumpy or not fully expanded. It also filled that room with a terrible chemical smell for about the first three days. I'm super glad I wasn't ready to use it right away because I would not have wanted to breathe in that smell all night long - can you say "headache." My first impression of the mattress is that it is of decent quality and pretty heavy duty. The mattress is covered with a really nice jacquard cover that looks very nice. I covered mine with a mattress protector right away to hopefully preserve it as long as posssible. Last night was our first night sleeping on the mattress, and it is MUCH HARDER than I had anticipated. I read from Zinus that this mattress is supposed to be a 6 on a scale of 1-10, 1 being the plushest, 10 being the firmest. A medium-firm mattress is what we seemed to gravitate toward when we try out mattresses in-store, so I thought we would be safe with this one. I'm not sure if it will take a week to break-in, I'm hoping it just needs a few days time to get a little softer, because it's just much too hard to me. I would hesitate to run and jump on this mattress for fear that it would hurt, that's how hard it is. I fear that with this company, no two mattresses are manufactured the same? Because how can so many people claim this mattress to be "soft"? It's just so far away from being anything close to "soft" in my opinion. It does seem to be good for the back, however. My boyfriend is about 215 lbs. and has frequent back pain from lifting weights, and he did comment how much better his back felt waking up this morning. I am 120 lbs. and have a lot of lower back and neck pain, and my back actually feels fine, but my neck is aching this morning. I will update that after giving it a weeks time. Some of our other issues were that we both sleep very hot and very restless. We needed something that stayed much cooler throughout the night and didn't transfer motion. This has seemed to check both of those boxes for us, which I'm really happy about. It slept noticeably cooler than the pillow-top we had been sleeping on, and neither of us felt the other moving around all night. Now if only it would soften up a little, I would give it 4 or 5 stars. Will update soon! 9/7/17 | WEEK 1 UPDATE: decided to give it 4 stars, overall. It doesn't seem to be "breaking in," but I suppose that would mean that the mattress is already breaking down, and would actually be a bad thing. I am, however, getting used to the firmness of it, and actually feel like I'm getting a great nights sleep. Additionally, my back pain is completely gone, and with it, many other little aches and pains I used to have CONSTANTLY. It's not placebo effect, because I absolutely hated this thing the first few nights. I have honestly noticed how much better I feel entirely, which has made me a happy consumer. I'm still debating if I should add a topper to it, but I'm afraid that will increase my back pain again. I'll let you know. I am still blown away at how cool this mattress sleeps, as well. My sheets get just warm enough to keep me at a comfortable room-temp throughout the night, but I don't wake up drenched in sweat anymore because of the oven that would form between my sheets with my old mattress. It's really comfortable, probably the most comfortable I've ever slept on, in respect to temperature and breathability. I'm keeping one star off because I just cannot imagine what a 7-10 on the firmness scale would feel like as compared to this one... I mean, would that mattress have to be made of cinder blocks? My gosh.

As a college student with his very first own apartment I wanted to purchase my own mattress with something that I liked. In the past I was not able to get a memory foam mattress all other previous mattresses I had did the job but it wasn't truly a 100 percent great night sleep. Now I did a lot of research on what mattress would work best for me. I sleep hot and also am a side and back sleeper and when I saw the price for the zinus cooling gel memory foam mattress in a king size I couldn't believe it so I took a chance and decided to order. It just arrived a couple days ago and I can honestly say you won't regret it. The memory foam is so comfortable and plush especially with the gel top that makes it nice and cool which is perfect for me. I even had enough money left over to buy the zinus bed frame as well and will most definitely be purchasing a zinus headboard to go along with it. This mattress provided me with the best sleep I've had in a while after following the instructions and letting the mattress decompress and air out I decided to test it out and within 10 minutes I fell asleep to my surprise (also was late to class but it was worth it). Now all these reviews commenting on the smell and how it didn't decompress to the proper height most likely were not following the instructions. First off let the mattress decompress a full 48 hours to let it rise to the proper height and make sure it has plenty of space to unwind. Second let it air out due to the green tea it will have a faint scent but after letting it air out it was not an issue. Third I bought the zinus elevated bed frame because if you own a memory foam mattress you are supposed to elevate the mattress and make sure the bed frame has openings to allow air to circuit and not let moisture build up such as letting it sit on the floor or wood. So for around $340 you can get yourself a quality mattress delivered to your home without breaking the bank. As a side note I was not paid for this review or discounted in any way I just provided my honest opinion for the mattress so others can benefit from honest non-picky reviews.

***********BUYER BEWARE*************READ THE FINE PRINT************** I ordered and received 34 mattresses and 15 mattress toppers from Zinus (through Amazon) in September 2020. I am a business owner. I own vacation rental units that I furnish. Out of the 49 Zinus items I purchased ONLY 20% were in good enough condition to be used. Of the 20% that expanded to their original size and look good they are horribly firm and uncomfortable. PLEASE read all the fine print before purchasing the Zinus mattresses and mattress toppers! On the main purchasing page of Amazon this is the verbiage. • Expertly packaged- Our technology allows this mattress to be efficiently compressed into one box that is easily shipped and maneuvered into the bedroom; simply unbox, unroll and this mattress do the rest, expanding to its original shape within 72 hours. Which I understood it meant “once you open the mattress it takes 72 hours for it to expand to its maximum shape”. That is not the case!! IF you happen to find the teeny tiny little link labeled “Installation Manual” really far down the page it states… “Please remove from packaging within 72 hours of receipt to make sure your mattress can grow to its full potential.” We had many construction delays, and the mattresses did stay boxed up for a couple of months in a storage unit while we waited for the units to be complete. If Zinus would have properly disclosed the mattress requirements better, I would have definitely figured something else out and not left them boxed up. You would think that if it is a matter of 3 days that makes a mattress usable or unusable it would be WELL published. I have spent HOURS on the phone with Amazon who stated they could not do anything, and I needed to contact Zinus. I then have spent countless hours on the phone with Zinus which got me nowhere other than a customer service email. I sent many emails to Zinus customer service since 12/23/2020 with pictures of all mattresses and toppers. They have emailed me back, but each response takes days. They kept escalating the claim up the management ladder. I have requested a replacement for all the defective mattresses. I initially did not want a refund I just wanted mattresses I could use. At one point they told me they would replace them. Then many days later they said they did not have enough in stock to replace them. I find this odd that they do not have at least 11 King size mattresses in stock at any given time. When I told them, I cannot wait for months on end to receive my replacements, since they are for a business and I need to start renting it out, they told me they would send me a “prorated” refund. I am not sure why it would be prorated since I was still within the 100-night trial period. But either way I have received nothing! They told me they would send me a refund and the “refund department” would be getting a hold of me to set it up and I have heard NOTHING. I have emailed them numerous times to each person I dealt with along the way and none of them have responded to me in the last 16 days. So as far as I am concerned Zinus has an 80% terrible product and their customer service wasted my time, and I did not receive reimbursement or replacement for my unusable products. I have purchased replacement mattresses from another company since I cannot wait any longer. I definitely DO NOT recommend Zinus or any of their products and I will never purchase from them again. I will be getting the word out as well to the many other rental owners I network with and letting them know of my experience. The pictures I have included are the mattresses and mattress toppers that had been unboxed for 3-4 weeks. That is all they expanded.

I've owned three Zinus Green Tea Mattresses and my family have another two, and all 5 have the same great comfort and quality. Now they have the Cooling Gel version which i've always wanted. Seems to be just as comfortable as the original Green Tea mattress. Fully inflates if directions are followed, even and flat, even on the King model. They don't seem to lose any qualities over time either. It's not Tempur-Pedic levels of comfort, but its very very close for an incredibly low price. Everyone who sits/lays on these is impressed by the comfort. On a firm/soft scale, I would put this right in the middle. I have a spinal condition and my back used to hurt over the most basic tasks, ever since I got my first Zinus mattress I have not had that problem and my back has felt better than ever. Not sure if its the mattress or a coincidence. Be advised, the mattress cover is not removable to wash so make sure to sleep clean and not let any loose-bladdered pets in the bed with you. This goes for any memory foam mattress, once any foul smelling liquids seep into the foam, it's over and the mattress should be replaced. Luckily, they're cheap enough to do so without taking out a loan if an accident happens!

**Update: Sorry for the late update. We ended up returning this mattress. It just didn’t break in enough for us. My boyfriend was not a fan. He’s says the bed is too hard (maybe because he is on the lighter side as apposed to me) I don’t recommend for side sleepers. If you like a firm, solid, and keep your house cool, you may like this mattress. I purchased the 12'' king fiberglass free Zinus Cooling Green Tea Memory Foam Mattress. I have slept on this bed for the last two weeks straight now. I gave it about 5 days to inflate while getting a mattress protector before sleeping on it. I did notice that it did not fully expand to the 12'', it is right at 11'', which isn't a huge deal breaker for me, but sucks to pay extra for more inches you don't get. Also, noticed the top end of the mattress, the foam seems to look uneven compared to the bottom part, but again, not a deal breaker. So, as far as comfort, it's great - comfortable, good support, and I love that it doesn't transfer motion! The only thing I am grappling with currently is the fact that sometimes I sweat since using it. I am not a hot sleeper and have never sweat hardly in my sleep, so this is not ideal. I assume it is because of the memory foam and sinking into it at night. I have been adjusting my thermostat and having lighter layers on the bed to see if that helps because I'd hate to return it but cannot get a good nights sleep waking up in sweat. I have decided to wait a little bit before returning. I will do an update later on whether or not I was able to make it work.
