Flexible front to back and sturdy side to side. Fantastic brace.
I bought this ankle brace after rolling my ankle twice (not an extreme sprain). I tried taping and traditional fabric/ velcro braces, but they never felt supportive enough and the fabric brace felt bulky and inflexible. The POD brace is lightweight, fits well in my cleat even with an insole, and is sturdy when bent in the direction of rolling my ankle, but flexible when I run. My only issue occurred during my first and second wears, when the top center of the brace dug into my shin/tendon and was very painful. After that I watched the DonJoy video on how to properly put the brace on and had no further issue. I would recommend wearing a tall sock and putting the brace on from a "take a knee" posture, so that weight is on the foot and the ankle is flexed. During play I occasionally pull up my sock and the back of the brace to make sure the middle of the brace is as close to the bend in the ankle as possible.

Flexible and provides adequate support at the same time
I like this ankle brace it is too tight and it goes into the shoes easy. I had a stroke and my ankle is weak every step I took I have to look down to make dure my foot won’t turn out. I bought a different one suggested by an online therapist but it is way too tight around my foot and I cannot wear it for too long because it cuts off the blood circulation but this one is comfortable but still give good support I don’t have to look down at my foot when I walk so my posture is better and my back doesn’t hurt anymore It’s amazing that it provides good support and also flexible and comfortable enough to walk with. Great product.

No. Just no.
I was really excited to try this brace out. I had lateral ankle reconstruction surgery and I was looking for a brace that wasn’t as bulky as some of my others. Normally, DonJoy is one of the best. Unfortunately, the POD ankle brace failed to live up to expectations. It pinched, bruised, collapsed and more when worn. It wasn’t stable at all and it hurt to wear. I had the right size and everything. I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone.

My daughter got a grade 3 sprain playing volleyball. Initially she wasn't able to wear this brace because it pushed on the injured area. Once she was able to start wearing it she loved it. She was playing club soccer and HS varsity volleyball at the same time and hasn't so much as tweaked the ankle since she started wearing this brace. She felt so comfortable in it I was told to buy another one and she now wears 2 when she plays volleyball. These fit well under both volleyball shoes and the booted soccer cleats. Innovative design that actually works. Would highly recommend.

Does a good job and is comfortable.
I am updating the review after giving this brace a second chance. I have a chronic ankle injury, it rolls over completely and I end up landing very hard. When I wrote my initial review, it was after a particularly hard fall on concrete and I was looking for this brace to provide total protection against a roll. It won't, but it offers enough support that it will provide resistance and prevent the total slide out / collapse and me allow me to catch myself. To achieve enough support, I start with a compression sleeve to control swelling and you MUST pair it with a good lace up shoe. It doesn't have to be heavy, I use the Vasque Men's Breeze 2.0 Gore Tex low, which is essentially a reinforced waterproof tennis shoe, the combo works great. In warmer months I am tempted to wear Crocs, but the brace / compression sleeve isn't enough on it's own, it is only strong enough when the footwear is supportive too.As far as overall comfort and ease of use, it is all day comfortable provided you don't over tighten it in the morning. I tighten it pretty firmly, but am careful, otherwise it will really hurt after a couple hours. It goes on quickly and fits in my Vasque shoes nicely. It's a good looking brace.I recommend this brace for those who have a chronic recurring injury like mine.

Velcro – the Weakest and Least Expensive Link
After 6 months, the ankle strap ripped in half on the way to a game on the left and then the right ankle Velcro strap stopped holding. My daughter wears a pair every high school and club practice/game. What infuriates me is the strap can easily be removed/replaced so why doesn't DonJoy offer replacement straps? Well, I can guess the answer.

More comfortable than Active Ankles
I have worn Active Ankles for years. Gave these a try since they looked lower profile. Love these. Not as bulky in the shoe, light weight, lower rise on the ankle but with the same stability support as an Active Ankle. More freedom of movement since nothing is rubbing on the bone on outside of ankle. I wear these for volleyball since my ankles are sloppy after multiple sprains over the years. Definitely recommend.
