Works great!!
Takes some elbow grease, but with a sledgehammer and this guy it is possible to split hardwood that most wood splitters break on! Works well for what it is!

Good for small wood only
Soft, small wood works well. Anything larger will cause the blade to deform in use. Really like the design, now looking for a larger version.

Sure beats an axe!
Normally, we use an axe which lies solely on my husband to do since I can't swing an axe due to how heavy it is and a shoulder injury so I ordered the Jason Kindling Firewood Splitter. Our fireplace is small so the wood needs to be half the size of these logs. This splitter did make splitting the wood much easier (even I was able to split it) even though we did have the wrong hammer. (The hammer is not included, you need to use your own.) It also would have been easier if we bolted it down like it was suppose to be (screws were included in the package) but we are fixing to move so we didn't bother screwing it down. As you can see by the photos, even with us not having the right hammer or screwing it down, it does work and made the job much easier than with the axe. After all the wood was split, I examined the splitter and it looked fine. It wasn't bent nor did it have a curled edge so I didn't have to file it. (There is a file included in the package to sharpen the edge when needed.) It works and I have no cons for Jason Kindling Firewood Splitter at this time.

Strictly for kindling size pieces only.
You get a kindling splitter, a file for sharpening and screws to secure it to something if you wish. It's made of heavy-gauge steel and is fairly robust.I was working far from my home and didn't have a cut piece of wood to screw it into so I simply placed it on the gravel drive within a couple dozen yards of the fallen tree I was going to cut from. I very quickly found the limits of its usefulness. It worked fine for small pieces of cut wood - up to 3 1/2 inches in diameter. I placed one end on the vertical cutting edge of this Jason's kindling splitter and pounded the other end with a small sledge hammer. This is going to work fine for those things you can hold in one hand - wood or hammer. At one point, I tried a piece of wood a little over 4" and it got stuck pretty quickly. I used the back of my maul and finally got it split, but it fell over several times and could have easily skidded. In my pics, I show what this really is good for - making kindling out of pieces of wood already split and at least quartered. The other issue is ergonomics. I had to bend over or kneel to work with this splitter. If you can secure it to something at least a couple feet tall, your back will thank you.Bottom line: cheap and will do the job. Better if it's secured to something to raise the height.

Not as good as the SnugNiture
A good friend of mine has the SnugNiture but I use my firepit / fireplace significantly less than he does and didn't want to shell out $85 for it but this seemed to be a good compromise. Ultimately, while it gets the job done, the SnugNiture is superior because it has a small ring at the top that keeps your log upright so you don't need to hold it in your hand to split the logs. Also unless you put this on top of your grass or a wood stump, it makes a ton of noise when hitting your log down on it on top of cement. The base could be a bit heavier as well as it tends to wobble a bit. Otherwise its solid for splitting some wood before a firepit night.

Arrived right before we had wood delivered.
Winter is here and we had wood for our stove delivered. This arrived just before so we put it to use right away. It’s working perfectly (it took a few tries to get it to do exactly what we wanted) and we’ll have to mount it to keep it working well but it’s doing the job of splitting the wood and makes the whole process faster and easier.

-Works as advertised-
Split those supermarket logs with ease. Comes with file to sharpen the blade. Get the heavier mallet (3lb’er) and a kneeling pad. Comes with screws to mount if you want, or go commando, its pretty steady when the blade catches. Also some good gardening gloves help to hold as you hammer 🔨 and that’s how I did it. Quite fun actually.

Perfect for intended use.
This works perfectly if you use it for what it’s designed to do. Its intended use is to make kindling to start a fire. If you have an already split piece of wood with no knots, then this will make quick kindling out of it by hitting it with a heavy hammer (2-5 lbs). I couldn’t be happier with this purchase.

Log splitter
For me, this is perfect. Does the job very well and great value too. The fixing bolts do their job. Overall it's great for small logs and kindling too.

Un peu trop petit, j aurais préféré plus gros.
Pour faire du bois d'allumage.Un peu cher pour la grosseur mais ça fait le travail.

Struggles with hard wood logs, sadly returned
Originally bought to use with seasoned hard wood logs (various types, oak ash, etc) to make kindling for my fire pitWorks well on softer wood types, and logs spilt easily without too much effortHowever, when used with my hard wood logs, it took a lot more effort to strike the log to perform the splitting action - this is totally understandable, but the downside is that when the log does split, there is a high chance that the hammer might follow through and possibly strike the cutting blade. This obviously damages the blade edge, but a suitable file is included with the kit so that minor dings or dents can be treated and a sharp edge obtained before proceeding. That however is the cause for its return - “what if” it wasnt the hammer that struck the blade - “what if” it was my hand? Since you physically have to hold the log in the first place with one hand, and with such force required for hard wood logs that could possibly cause quite a severe injury to either handSorry, but not prepared to take that risk myself and so returningI will say though, that the splitter is quite well made and seems very strong - its just the potential to cause injury thats put me off, sorry.
