Great for the price - especially if you're considering the Custom SLR Mount
After being fed up with dealing with the straps on my new DSLR, which seemed to somehow always be in the way, I did some research and decided I wanted the Custom SLR C-Loop Camera Strap Mount Solution - Silver bottom mount. Mounting on the bottom and/or side is a superior design, especially since I prefer to carry things around one shoulder like a sling, as opposed to around my neck. Then I saw the price...$40! Figured I'd give this one a shot for the similarity in design and substantially lower cost. Glad I did.The design of the mount is nice. It feels solid and screws in easily, as you'd expect. The turning/tightening design of the CSLR Mount is probably a little more refined, but the Opteka makes up for it by letting you mount to a tripod without removing it. No such luck with the CLSR. There are also several similar mounts available, but most screw in and then do not rotate. I find the rotation very helpful, both in avoiding tangles and in giving some options on how the camera lies against my body, based on the situation. Also, my concern with the non-swivel mounts is that the camera seems much more likely to work its way loose. The swivel should substantially minimize that risk. Now the strap is another issue. It's worth noting that I have a decent strap that I planned on using, and I was basically just buying the mount. Good thing. While the strap seems like it's comfortable and made fairly well, it is ridiculously short, especially for a design that contemplates wearing it like a sling to one side. It MAY be long enough to wear in the traditional around the neck way, but if you're going to do that, you probably don't need this product anyway. Dinging 1 star for this.Overall, quite happy with the mount, especially for the price, and the strap is going in the "I may have a use for this someday" drawer.

Swivel Mount is Great, Strap is Meh
Personally, I bought this for the swivel mount, the neoprene strap is pretty much useless for me. The swivel mount seems to be made of decent construction. The metal that the strap mount is made of feels somewhat cheap but it has held up so far. The neoprene washer works to keep the screw in place but it seems to be somewhat small. The screw itself locks into place fairly well and so far I have not needed to adjust it.The fact that you can still use a tripod while this is still connected better than similar products but I do see some issues. There isn't a lot of room between the bottom of the metal swiveling section and the bottom of the mount itself. If you have a tripod with a quick release mount, this could prove to be somewhat awkward as the strap will have to move around the quick release. While I have no intentions to use the strap, I did note a few things. The neoprene section of the strap is fairly small, only reaching around my collarbone before the thinner nylon strap material began. The neoprene stretches and in my short test it remained relatively cool on my neck. The overall length the strap can achieve is abysmal by most standards. At its longest, the strap would have the camera hanging around my solar plexus at best. This might work for a smaller point and shoot camera or maybe even a micro four thirds camera, but for my Canon 60D, it's a little high.If you have a strap already then I would recommend buying this for nothing more than the swivel mount. The neoprene strap might work if you are planning on using a smaller camera or don't mind the camera being at your mid to high chest.

Happy with purchase
It's been 6 months and so far I am very happy with my $10 purchase. Happy enough to write a review! The swivel hardware works well with my Canon T3i. The quality of the hardware seemed questionable, and I was very hesitant to have my camera dangling upside down from my neck, but after a 3 week trip to Europe the hardware held up better than expected and the mount never came loose. Having your camera on your hip is a comfortable design as the lens naturally points inward. Functionality is comparable to the $40 C-loop and I really like how the straps do not get in the way while shooting. The main advantage to the C-loop (besides price), is Opteka allows for a tripod mount. For piece of mind I would consider upgrading to the c-loop if I invested in a heavier, more expensive camera/lens, but this Opteka works for now.Cons: When resting the camera on a flat surface it becomes tilted and the lens touches the surface. Once you mount the hardware it is difficult to unscrew (which is more of a good thing). Mounting to a tripod is cumbersome because of the straps. The swivel doesn't rotate freely without grease so your straps can twist if you are walking a lot. The quality of the metal in the hardware could be improved. Finally the included strap is a joke. Complete garbage. Terrible. Throw it away. It's way too short, made for children. It's constructed of uncomfortable stretchy material, and the edges are frayed. Obviously it's not a quality strap, so just use the strap that came with your camera and you'll be fine.

Buon compromesso
