I have tried the other one that has own rod, but have a hard time getting it to work because it rely on two balls to hold the spool, it just end up falling off.This one is more stable, the rod for the spindle won't go into the spool with 3/8 hole like big game spool. I think a next size drill bit can open it up enough. It's just a bit too big.There is tension that is adjustable on the spindle, like a star drag, the lowest setting gives plenty of tension. I don't have any problem with the rod unscrewing or anything.It is a bit wobbly when holding the reel, but gets the job done, but it's far from shop quality tool.I did a lot of spooling with a pencil, drill, just grabbing the line with a cloth to get some tension.I notice the DIY ways if you get any off center motion, or stop and go motion, this will end up on the spool, you will see a zig zag pattern if it is braid. When you go to use it, it will be a bit hard to let line out, because the line was not spooled on smoothly. I usually set 100 to 150 of lines out when trolling, and wind it back, so whatever lay underneath usually doesn't matter.But when setting up a reel it does save time or your finger.I also used it to remove line from the reel, it's not the greatest winding quality bacl to the roll.. it does ok, the video suggests to set a bit of drag and let the line out, but I just put the reel in freespool, using the drag might be better because it puts tension, I didn't want to burn out my drag. I don't see how anyone would want to do that.Finally the price is the highest of this kind of tool, that's why I think it's a 3 or 4 star item.

It works but you have to be careful with it as it is a little flimsy in the reel seat and handle part. That part needs to be made stronger or if stronger material. Mine broke after spooling 4 reels. Trying to glue it back together to see if it will still work. Wish they had replacement parts.

I recently purchased the Goture Fishing Line Spooler Winder Machine Reel Spooler Fishing Line Winder Spooler for my first time spooling an electric reel. I have purchased cheaper ones in the past and realized this is much better. You are able to adjust the amount of tension on the line and it also allows you to remove line from reels that need the line changed. Any serious fisherman needs one of these.

Does the job but a little wobbly when spooling on large reels.
