How to determine the Ventine RV cover BV0554-01 from the BV0554-03 cover.
I replaced an 'older' style VentLine RV vent 'dome' cover on my 1996 Alegro. I'd originally ordered the Ventline BV0554-01 replacement cover, which is sometimes referred to as the 'old style' cover. It didn't fit. It turns-out the BV0554-01 style cover's hinge doesn't extend far enough (it's too close to the physical cover by about 1/2"). Instead, I need the BV0554-03 cover. This review explains how to determine if you need the "01" cover, or the "03" cover. Now, there is easy way to know what cover you currently have. There are no markings. To my knowledge, Ventline makes 4 models of RV covers: BV0554-01, BV0554-03, BVD0449-A01 and the BVD0449-A03. The first two models use a sort of J-metal hinge. The last two I'm sorry to say I'm not familiar with, but they appear to use a plastic hinge molded into the cover that attaches to the RV's vent assembly via with a thin metal rod (ie a 'pin'). I'll only talk about the older-style covers: the BV0554 type. The BV0554 style covers attach to the vent assembly by sliding to lengths of J-metal one-inside-the-other. So, the vent assy has a 10" length of J-metal is permanently attached, as does the cover. The cover's J-metal simply slides into the vent assembly to make the hinge.OK, with that in mind, the way to determine the -01 model from the -03 is by examining the COVER where the J-metal attaches. At that spot there are 4 rivets. If the lip of the cover is even all the way around (it does not extend downward at the rivets area) then you've got the BV0554-01 model. If, however, about 1/2" of the cover's plastic extends downward (thus enabling the same J-metal to reach a little closer to the RV's roof), you've got the BV0554-03. Said another way, the BV0554-01's plastic cover's LIP is even all the way around, while the BV0554-03's LIP is extended about 1/2" at the rivets.Wouldn't ya think those geniuses at Ventline would stamp these things to save everyone a lot of hassle!!and two use plastic hinge with a thin metal rod. The BV0554 style uses the J-Metal hinge. The differThe only way to know if you n
