Rockridge Press The Social Survival Guide for Teens on the Autism Spectrum: How to Make Friends and Navigate Your Emotions

Obviously written by a no autistic author
This book is pretty much a step by step instructional manual teaching autistic kids how to mask and telling them that it is not ok to be their true autistic selves- especially in public. Its so full of harmful information that I don't even want to give it to the goodwill.

I’m returning this book
I understand wanting to help your child cope in a neurotypical world. I truly do. But this book tips in favor of encouraging kids to mask, which is not only exhausting, but harmful. For example, the section on eye contact coaches kids on making eye contact. Making eye contact can not only be difficult, but overstimulating and painful. I can’t imagine asking my kids to make eye contact. It’s not for me, so I am returning it.

Very Helpful!
I bought this for my daughter who was recently diagnosed on the spectrum. After she discussed some of the things she was learning, my mind was blown. We have both learned a lot, very highly recommend.
